
Delbert “Dwayne” Slater, passed away October 24, 2023.
Per his wishes, no services are planned. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Dwayne was born on September 29, 1939 in Brownfield, TX to Rex and Leona (Ellerd) Slater. He graduated from Ralls High School in 1958. Dwayne was very involved in high school and received many honors. He was an outstanding athlete and Mr. RHS. He married his high school sweetheart, Jozelle Elam on October 24, 1959 in Ralls, TX and graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1963.
After moving to Amarillo, Dwayne was a coach and teacher at Bowie, Fannin, Palo Duro, and a teacher at Travis. He retired after 29 years of faithful service and loved working with students and athletes.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jozelle; and son, Scott.
He is survived by his daughter, Stacy Slater of Houston, TX; brother, Tommy Slater and wife Linda of Odessa, TX; niece, Susan Morgan and husband Conrad of Weatherford, TX; three nephews, Steve Slater and wife Paula of Lake Jackson, TX, Stan Slater and wife Gail of Plano, TX and Steven Sanderson and wife Wendy of Newberg, OR; and several cousins.
We all loved coach Slater, great teacher, coach and mentor.
Palo Duro was a much better place with him in it.
