DeLoss Dayton Slocum, Sr, 90, of Amarillo, TX, passed away peacefully on October 1st, 2022, with family members by his side.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 5th, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Adrian, TX with Dee Slocum and Miles Shewchuk officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park, 6969 East I-40 in Amarillo, TX. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

DeLoss Dayton Slocum, Sr was born June 4th, 1932, in Tilton, Arkansas to Ernest and Carrie Slocum and passed peacefully on October 1, 2022, with family members by his side.

“Dee” and Betty married on June 14th, 1950 and were married for 72 years. They moved from Arkansas to Texas in 1954. He worked for Pantex and the Atomic Energy Commission for 17 years. Later he opened and operated for 44 years Amarillo Refrigeration and Appliance Service. During that time, he also lived for a few years in Iran and Saudi Arabia doing refrigeration services on military bases for Bell Helicopter.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and travel. He was extremely patriotic. He loved America and the American Flag. Though he was never in the military, he had an unmeasurable love and respect for those who were.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends, his church, and professional colleagues.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Carrie Slocum, his sister and brother-in-law, Marshal and Joyce Harden, and his daughter Susan Walker.

He is survived by wife Betty Slocum, daughter Judy and husband Hayes Lovelady, son Dee, Jr and wife Lynn Slocum, all of Amarillo. Five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the funeral home.
