Dennis Gerald “Denny” Mathias, 71, of Amarillo, TX passed away on July 16, 2021.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. – 6:30 P.M., Monday, July 19, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Denny was born in Cedar Rapids, IA on February 25, 1950, to Helen and Mearl Mathias. He served in the United States Army and was a Christian. He was previously a member of First Pentecostal Assembly of God in Ottumwa, IA.

Denny worked for John Deere for 30 years. He was an incredible handyman that could fix anything and was willing to help anyone. He also worked for Country Estates from 2004-2008. Denny loved nature and being outdoors. He loved being around and working with animals. Even more so, he loved his family unconditionally.

Denny graduated from Pekin High School in 1969. While attending Pekin, he was in wrestling where he still holds records in the sport.

Denny married Connie Steele in Ottumwa, IA on September 19, 1970.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Dwight Mathias, and Marland Mathias.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Mathias; daughters, Lisa Guyette and husband Jason, of Amarillo, TX, and Stacey Mathias, of Eddyville, IA; brothers, Phillip Mathias and wife Marcia, of Ottumwa, IA, Roger Mathias, of Richland, IA, and Daren Mathias and wife Peggy, of Richland, IA; sisters, Marlene Mathias, of Richland, IA, and Cindy Sylvester and husband Phil, of Richland, IA; eight grandchildren, Drake, Madisyn, Delaney, Makenna, Mallori, Dayton, Merreck, and Mavreck; and two great-grandchildren, Zayden, and Vivienne.

  9. I do remember the Mathias family. Dennis was a year ahead of me in school (Packwood Elem. & Pekin of Packwood H.S. He was in my oldest brother’s (Ron Chacey) class.
