Doris Epps Smith

Doris Epps Smith, 80, of Amarillo, Texas went home to meet her Lord and Savior, Monday, November 28, 2022. There is no doubt that she was greeted at the gates of Heaven with a “Well done good and faithful servant.”

Celebration of life services will be on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 11:00 A.M., at Hillside Christian Church Auditorium, 6100 S. Soncy Rd., with Johnathan Mast and Chris Condit officiating. Funeral arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Doris was born in Amarillo, Texas on September 23, 1942.  She attended Amarillo High School where she was a cheerleader and met many lifelong friends, as well as her first love, Duward Epps.

They married right after high school and shared 50 years of marriage before Duward passed away in 2011. They raised two boys in a home where there was never a question God and family came first.

Doris was blessed to reconnect with a high school friend, Robert Smith, a few years later and marry this amazing man.  For the last 10 years they have shared many adventures, laughter and love. We are all blessed to have Bob in our family and lives.

Doris worked at Tascosa National Bank where she was one of the first employees when the bank first opened. She worked in the banking business for many years before starting her 2nd career at J Winston’s. She loved this job, her fellow employees, customers, and made many good friends.

She served on the Ronald McDonald House Board for many years, was a part of many Bible studies, and was a member of Hillside Christian Church.

Doris was full of life and she loved people well.  She was always eager to serve and encourage others. Whether it was a letter, a thank you card, a phone call, or an in person visit she always took the time to let people know how special they were to her.  Matthew 22:37-39

Her faith was unshakable. Even as she was preceded in death by many family members and friends, she never quit testifying to God’s goodness and offering encouragement to others to help them through their grief.  Proverbs 16:24 Gracious Words…..

Doris was joyful, loving, and full of adventure. She had a beautiful smile and never missed an opportunity to visit with strangers, friends, and family.   She had a very infectious personality; some would even say “sassy”. She loved God, time with her family, traveling, spending time with her friends and hanging out with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Doris left a legacy of love that will carry on through her family and friends for generations to come.  She will be deeply missed but we all know that we will see her and that beautiful smile again.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duward, and son, Tommy Epps.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Smith Jr., of Amarillo, TX; son, Brent Epps and wife Traci, of Amarillo, TX; daughter-in-law, Brenda Epps, of Panhandle, TX; Bob’s children, Tracy Holmes and her family, Robert Smith III and his family, Paige Aiken, and James Smith and his family; four grandchildren, Trinity Munoz and husband Luis, Taylor Epps and wife Ali, Tanner Epps and wife Autumn, and Chelsea Cole and husband Taylor; great-grandchildren, Lawson, Emerson, Elliott, Luca, Letty, Brynlee, Barrett, and Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.
