Dorothy Irwin Hamilton

Dorothy Irwin Hamilton of Amarillo, TX passed away October 28, 2022 at the age of 97.  Born May 16, 1925, in San Antonio, Texas she was a member of the mounted “Lassos” pep squad at Jefferson High School.  After college she went to work for the State Health Department Laboratory in San Antonio.  She met and married Arthur “Jerry” Hamilton, Jr. who was returning from the war. After his final year of college, they returned to San Antonio, where they both worked.

While raising two children, Dottie worked as a volunteer in the children’s school and club activities and served as a docent at The McNay Art Institute.  She enjoyed membership in the Military-Civilian Club, gardening, playing bridge and entertaining.  The family traveled extensively in North America and after Jerry’s retirement, Dottie and Jerry visited the rest of the world.  She especially enjoyed traveling with her two grandsons.

She and her husband moved to Amarillo in 2013.  She is survived by her daughter, Susan Hamilton O’Brien and husband Jay; two grandsons, Wales Madden IV and wife, Lauren and Hamilton Madden and wife, Paige and two great-grandsons, Wales Madden V (Cinco) and Marcus Madden.  She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Hamilton in 1977.
