Dr. Harold Brigance, better known to all as “H”, died Wednesday, July 14, 2021 after a tragic bicycle accident sustained on July 3rd.

To know H was to love H.  He was generous to a fault.  If you were a child that needed a bike, consider it done.  If your vision was impaired and you couldn’t afford to pay, the service was free.  Giving gifts to his family was his love language.  H was known for his playfulness and took childlike delight in unexpected surprises.  He never passed up an opportunity to pull pranks on his unsuspecting friends and family then smile and laugh with glee about it.

Describing Harold as energetic would be an understatement.  His motto was, “If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space.”

One of his lesser-known attributes was his sincere tenderheartedness.  He was open about showing his emotions.  Both happiness and sadness could bring him to tears.

Harold’s legacy will be remembered as a devoted husband to Janet, father to Eric, Tara, Brian, and Katie.  Harold was son-in-law extraordinaire to Lee.  He was a genuine friend to both family and extended family.  Consider yourself fortunate if you were a member of his tribe.

Harold graduated with honors from the University of Houston College of Optometry, and faithfully served the community of Hereford for over three decades.

Harold was an avid athlete excelling in many sports.  His passion was cycling.

Join us as we celebrate his life on Friday, July 16th, at 10:00 a.m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.  Harold requested that everyone wear Hawaiian shirts!  Come as you are, leave different.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Amarillo Yellowjackets High School Mountain Bike Team in care of Carol Keyes, 18351 Sundancer Lane, Bushland, TX 79124.

  8. To our Dearest Friend,

Harold we met in Optometry School and immediately became best friends. I admired the fact that you always gave it your all whether it be academics, sports, optometry care and being a loving husband, father and friend. As a fellow Soldier I apologize for not physically making your last formation. However, as I sit here in Virginia wearing my Hawaiian shirt, although there is sadness in my heart my mind is full of so many fond memories.

I salute you goodbye until we meet again.

    Love Cinde and Fran

  12. Janet & family, I am sorry for the loss of Dr. Brigance, he was my eye doctor and my daughters too, and he was a good person.

  13. I met Harold shortly after he arrived in Hereford. He was just finishing setting up his practice in the Hereford Mall. My 14 year old daughter became his once a week cleaning lady for time. He allowed her that favor to pay for contacts. I was aware at the time that she was probably receiving far more value than he. This arrangement was a kindness that he offered, and Josi and I were very grateful. Harold remained my optometrist until I moved from Hereford. My condolences to his family and friends at his loss. I know he will be missed, but I hope their warm memories of life with him will sustain them all.

  14. He was my eye Dr since I was little. I was looking foward to having him see my daughter as well. He will be missed.
