Dr. Robert “Bob” Wickliffe Wood
Dr. Robert “Bob” Wickliffe Wood, of Amarillo, Texas passed away February 6, 2023.
Visitation will be from 5-6:30 pm, Friday. February 10, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Coulter Road Baptist Church, 4108 Coulter. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Bob was born March 5, 1952 in Evansville, IN. Robert graduated from University High School, Normal, Illinois in 1970. He married the love of his love, Sharon Ann Smith on July 3rd, of the same year. He attended Vanderbilt University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology. He then attended the University of Kentucky where he received a Master of Science in Microbiology.
Bob served for 4 years as a Captain at William H. Beaumont Medical Center in El Paso, TX. After completing his time in the US Army, he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received a Master of Divinity. He served for 6 years as the Minister of Education for Belview Baptist Church in Midland, TX,
He then was called to First Baptist Church, Dalhart, Tx as their Minister of Education and served for 10 years. During this time, he completed a Doctorate of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In May of 2000, the Lord led them to Germantown, WI to pursue church planting. God called Bob and Sharon to Morris, IL and then on to serve the Baptist State Convention of Michigan, where they spent several years. Heritage Baptist Church was his final call and he retired from full-time ministry in December of 2019. “GrandBob” loved the Lord and loved his grandkids. He enjoyed reading everything and enjoyed serving his church at Coulter Road Baptist Church.
His legacy of service will remain.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roundtree Wickliffe Wood.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon Ann Wood of Amarillo, TX; mother, Neree Hatcher Wood of Columbia, SC; brother, Richard Wood and wife, Robbie of Alabama; sisters, Kathleen Listman of Oklahoma City, OK and Jeanette Guinn of Columbia, SC; sons, Bobby Wood and wife Dee Grogan of Austin, TX and David Wood and wife, Lori of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Celeste Morales of Amarillo, TX, Kristen Trevino of McKinney, TX, Naomi Trevino of Amarillo, TX, Jarek Wood of Amarillo, TX, and John Mark Wood and wife, Brooke of Norfolk, VA where he serves in the US Navy; and great-grandchildren, Trinity Little and Ember Lynn Wood.
