Dwain T. Dixon, 85, of Amarillo, TX was born on March 1, 1935, in Ft. Worth, TX and went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 12, 2020.

Services will be private. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Dwain spent 4 years in the Navy and 16 years in the Army serving his country, where he made lifelong friends. After retiring from the Army in 1977, he brought his family to Amarillo where they made their home. He worked for Mesa for many years and then retired in 1996. He then took a couple years off and realized retirement wasn’t for him, so he went back to work. Most recently working at Gene Howe Elementary School, where he loved the kids and facility. He was an active member of Second Baptist Church in Amarillo and TOPS Club #0283. Dwain was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a friend to many, and he devoted lots of time helping others and his community. He will be greatly missed.

Dwain was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hettie Dixon, and his brother, Bob Dixon.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Melba Jean Dixon; 5 children: son, Ed Dixon and wife Karen, of Ft. Worth, TX, daughter, Sandra Millard, of Ft. Worth, TX, son, Lee Dixon and wife Gwyn, of Pearland, TX, daughter, Paula Johnson and husband Scott, of Burns, TN, and son, Steven Dixon and wife Mevanee, of Powell, TN; 10 grandchildren: Brandy Ocon, Laura Weaver, Ricky Mitchell, Brad Davis, Skyler Dixon, Mackenzie Dixon, Alyssa Dixon, Taylor Johnson, Sydney Watkins, and Samantha Dixon; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be available from 10:00 A.M.- 8:00 P.M., Monday, November 16, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

  1. Dwain Dixon was such a kind man! He will be missed! Every time he came into the office at church I always felt like a Mighty Man of God had just been in my presence!
