Earl David Johnson, 67, of Amarillo, TX, and formerly of New Mexico, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021.

Private services will be held.  Arrangements by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Earl was born Sept. 4, 1954, in Marquette, MI to Theodore and Julean Johnson.  He graduated from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, NM in 1972.

Earl married Laura Cillessen on Nov. 17, 1979, in Albuquerque, NM.

He was a master carpenter, builder, and a cowboy.  Earl loved to be outdoors, and hunt.  He was also a cowboy action shooter and a member of the Single Action Shooting Society.  Most of all, he loved being a grandpa.

Survivors include his wife Laura Johnson, of Amarillo, TX; daughters, Amanda Shaffer and husband Jay, of Stephenville, TX, and Lindsey Johnson, of Amarillo, TX; three grandkids, Ryan and Jaelyn Shaffer and Brayden Bryan; a sister, Audrey Martinez and husband Tony, of Albuquerque, NM; and his brother, Allen Johnson, of Gunnison, CO.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Johnson.

  5. You always knew when Earl was in the room. That ornery grin and infectious smile was always present. He lived life on his terms, now he can be a guardian angel for those he loved so. You will be missed! Sending strength and love to my dear family.
