Evon “Mack” Wesley McKinney, 73 years young, of Amarillo went home to be with Jesus after a short but grueling battle with cancer on June 22, 2022.

Services will be at 1:00 P.M., Monday, June 27, 2022, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Matt Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Llano Cemetery Garden Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Evon “Mack” was born in Wheeler, Texas on October 13, 1948, to Billie Jean and Clint Wesley McKinney.

He is awaiting his beautiful wife (Mary) Jane McKinney, and his 2 wonderful kids, Trent and Misty McKinney.  The apple of his eyes were his grandkids, Zander and Daxton McKinney, and his step-grandkids, Abbey and Jarrett Diggs.  Christie McKinney and Jennelle Diggs are his two daughters-in-law, who kept him on his toes.  Devon, his only brother, was his childhood tetherball rival and friend.  He was always up for a good burger and fries from Golden Light Café. He enjoyed sharing a burger with Jane there at least once a week.

He has a slew of nieces, nephews, and let’s not forget his fur babies—Paris and Turbo.

Evon “Mack” loved a good story, fast cars and good music, especially the classics with kickin’ guitar riffs.  He loved, “pickin’ and grinnin’ ”—his term for guitar playing.  He was in several bands throughout his life, many including his buddy, David Ressener.  His other great phrase was, “Hard Work and Dedication.”  Those of us who loved him would say that was his life motto.  He did all his work with his might and dedication was never in short supply.  He was most dedicated to his family, especially to his teenage, car racing, sweetheart Jane, his kids and grandkids.  He was dedicated to his country and served proudly in the Vietnam War, in Germany in service to the Colonel there and at Pantex in Amarillo.  Evon “Mack” had a servant heart and was always willing to help those in need, even with his new heart that he received in 2004. The world lost a great man, but Heaven gained a hero.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M., Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
