Frederick “Fred” Woodson Hancock

Frederick “Fred” Woodson Hancock, 86, died Friday, March 17, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, March 24, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Murray Gossett officiating.  A private family burial will follow the service.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Fred was born in Amarillo, Texas on October 17, 1936, to Woodson and Josephine Hancock.  He lived most of his life in Amarillo.

He graduated from Amarillo High School as a member of the class of 1954.  After attending Amarillo College, he graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Industrial Engineering.

He was a Gunnery Sergeant in the Army Reserves.

Fred married Edwina Hugg in 1969.  They had one daughter, Stacy.

He went to work for the First National Bank of Amarillo in 1968 and retired as a Senior Vice President and Trust Officer in 1996.

Fred enjoyed sports and played tennis for Amarillo High School and the University of Texas.  He also especially enjoyed fly fishing, golf, and dove and quail hunting.

Fred took pride in being a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, where he had previously served as Deacon, Elder, and in other various capacities.

He was an active member of the community, and had been involved in many civic activities.

Fred is survived by his wife, Edwina; daughter, Stacy Barnard and husband Decker; a grandson, Bridger Barnard; a sister-in-law, Bette Hugg; a cousin, Jane Sturges; and many lifetime friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to First Presbyterian Church.
