Gary Clifford Harris

Gary Clifford Harris, 78, of Amarillo, TX passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, October 19th, 2022. Gary was born in Memphis, TX on May 22nd, 1944, to William and Sara Harris. Gary grew up in Amarillo until his family moved to Shiprock, New Mexico where he graduated from Kirtland High School. He attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM where he obtained his bachelor’s degree.

After graduating college, he worked in El Paso, TX and Phoenix, AZ before returning to Amarillo where he met his wife, Sharon Harris. They were married October 18th, 1986. Gary was a CPA and worked for Cornell and Company as a senior managing partner. Eventually he became an entrepreneur running several successful businesses with his wife Sharon, all while continuing a career as a CPA. They opened two Mailboxes Etc. locations, Double Dip Two, and eventually Crown Trophy, before retiring.

Gary was a long-time member of the Lions’ Club of Amarillo, a volunteer for the High Plains Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and was an avid poker player with his poker buddies of over 40 years.

Gary enjoyed his work and took great pride in the businesses he ran and in being a CPA. He met numerous people along the way whose friendships he valued. He enjoyed fixing things, there was never something so broken it was beyond the repair of Gary. Riddles and jokes were never in short supply. You could always count on him to have something up his sleeve to make you laugh or make you think. Gary also enjoyed being a grandad. He was always one to go above and beyond for his grandchildren. Banana splits, fixing toys, jokes, and always being ready to play were some of his specialties. His grandchildren were blessed to have him and will miss his ability to always make them smile.

He is preceded in death by his father William Harris, mother Sara Harris, and stepmother Roma Harris.

Gary is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sharon Harris, son Chad Harris and long-time girlfriend Celia Wheat, daughter Chandra Beers and husband Steve Beers, step-son Brent Lane and wife Shannon Lane, eight grandchildren, Jayme Gray and husband Blake Gray, Matthew Powers, Whitney McBee and husband Brian McBee, Ashton Beers, Haydn Harris, Harley Harris, Charris Powers, and Emily Lane, two great grandchildren, Lane Gray and Sloan Gray, two brothers, Terry Harris and wife Karen Harris, Rex Harris and wife Debbie Harris, two sisters, Trish Bassett and husband Ron Bassett, Peggy Hensley and husband Red Hensley, and numerous other loving family members.
