Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Panhandle. Interment will follow in Panhandle Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Gary was the oldest child born to Howard Lee Beddingfield and Angeline Urbanczyk Beddingfield. From a very young age, he was constantly in motion. If in the house, Gary was always in the rocking chair; if outside, he has a ball in his hands! These practices continued throughout his lifetime. His favorite ball became the golf ball, and although he never sank the elusive hole-in-one, he thoroughly enjoyed playing with family and friends and it certainly became one of his favorite pastimes!

Gary graduated with the class of 1966 after attending all 12 years in Panhandle ISD. After graduation, he attended Odessa Junior College, The University of Texas, then graduated with his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Business from West Texas State University.

On January 22, 1969, Gary eloped with his high school sweetheart, Ann Stamps. Gary would say this was one of his best life decisions. To this union were born four children: Howard Reese, Kurt J., Kary Lee, and Ellee Ann. Anthony Watson came into the family as a foster child and although he could not be adopted, became as forever son in their hearts.

After Gary graduated from college, he, Ann, and Reese spent a year in Phoenix, AZ. In 1973, the young family moved back to Panhandle and continued to rear their growing family. In 1975, they were able to purchase A.J. Weiser and Company, and start Beddingfield Real Estate. Gary retired from the real estate business, but the insurance company is still family owned and operated.

He loved his hometown and was always very civic minded. Gary was a member and past president of Rotary Club. He served two terms on the Panhandle ISD School Board. In 1980, he was appointed to serve Carson County as a member of Panhandle Regional Housing and Finance Corporation, serving as its president for the past several years. He was happy to serve on Panhandle’s Economic Development Board.

Gary enjoyed grilling and cooking for family and friends. Perhaps, his greatest joy was following the activities of the 5 children and then the activities of the 9 grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Angie and Howard Beddingfield; sister, Janie and her spouse Ken Plumlee; and his in-laws, Leona and JW Stamps.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years. Ann Stamps Beddingfield; children, Reese Beddingfield; Kurt Beddingfield, Kary Shadid and spouse Brady, and Ellee Bonner and spouse Blake; and Anthony Watson and spouse Kim; grandchildren, Jay Patrick, Ethan Prezley, and Evan Shadid, Hollister and Sawyer Beddingfield, and Marlee, Annee, and Sullivan Bonner; brother, Bruce Beddingfield and spouse Carolyn; brother-in-law, Gaylon Stamps and spouse Pat; sister-in-law Adelia Ketchum and spouse Clyde; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Gary will be remembered for his quick wit, generous heart, and contagious laugh!

The family invites anyone in attendance to a reception at the Beddingfield Home, 1000 Park, Panhandle, TX following the service.
