Gary Wayne Grogan, 76, of Amarillo, TX, died on February 20, 2022.

Services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Southwest Church of Christ with Brent Adams officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Gary Wayne Grogan was born on January 19, 1946, to GW and Ruby Grogan in Abilene, TX. Gary grew up in Tahoka, TX and had two younger sisters, Lana and Vonciel. Gary worked hard on the farm growing up and enjoyed playing football and baseball.

During his time at West Texas State University, Gary was an active of member of Phi Delta Theta, but most importantly, he met the love of his life, Barbara McGaugh. They were married on January 20, 1968, and they started their life together in Amarillo, TX, where they were blessed with two daughters – Jill and Juliana. One of his great joys was watching his girls grow up and being a part of their lives. He led a successful career owning and operating Grogan Farms, during which he was named Outstanding Conservation Farmer two years in a row.

Friendship was so important to him: from the employees at the Amarillo Town Club, to the Western Bowl waitresses, his respiratory therapists, and Donut Stop “ministry” buddies, he never met a stranger. He even went as far as to come up with witty nicknames for each person he connected with. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his “Get Along Gang”, spending many hours drinking coffee and visiting at the Bagel Place.

Gary loved to be with his family, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed taking his family on special vacations, traveling everywhere from the mountains to cruises; his kids even managed to drag him through Disney World! The grandkids were the highlight of his life. He loved for them to drop by the house, if only to visit, play checkers, and steal a bowl of cereal. He took pride in attending horse shows, band concerts, football, and volleyball games – occasionally being a partner-in-crime to sneak out for late-night snacks.

Even with his health in decline, he never complained, and was always ready for a good laugh. He would always offer life advice and encouraged his family to take care of each other. Over the past decade, Gary’s relationship with God truly blossomed. He spent hours studying his Bible and perusing his ever-growing faith. Gary constantly encouraged his ‘grands’ to seek God first, and to always take shelter in His ever-lasting love.

  10. Barbara, I need not tell you how blessed you were to have spent a lifetime with is guy; I loved him like a brother. The Grogan
family was like a 2nd family to me for as long as I can remember. Lana & I met at the Little League Baseball park at the age of 4, while our big brothers played ball together and parents watched the games. We not only went to school together, we grew up in the same church together & often traded out Sunday afternoons @ each other’s houses. We road the same school bus together. I consider Lana as that sister I didn’t have ‘til I was four, but prayed every night for! I LOVE this family, and I loved your Gary! This old world and all who knew him will miss him dearly, but I praise God that we will see him again one day! What a great reunion that will be. He claimed is citizenship in heaven, as a host of angels and our GOD WELCOMED him saying, “We’ll done, my good and faithful servant!” I can almost visualize he and Sach embracing, & my own brother Cal patting him on the back and shaking hands. My prayers remain with you and the entire family in great sympathy for loss, and grief.

  11. I remember him very well. As a classmate of Lana’s he was a big guy to all of us growing up. My deepest sympathies to all the family. He was a true gentleman and all around good guy. Heaven gained a bold angel with his passing.

  12. Praying for your family Barbara. I know you have many memories that will stay with you forever. It is so nice your girls are close by.
