George Gresham Holt
George Gresham Holt, 82, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on March 4, 2023.
Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. Scott Middleton officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
George was born on December 1, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1959. He served in the United States Navy Seabees. George married Barbara Watkins on August 29, 1969, in Amarillo, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Faye Middleton and his infant sister, Dana Cheryl.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Holt; daughter, Christina Thornton and husband Tim, of Amarillo, Texas; brother, Dr. Scott Middleton and wife Pam, of Craig, Colorado; sister, Sharon Mathis and husband Nick, of Craig, Colorado; and granddaughter, Maelie Sullivan, of Amarillo, Texas. He is also survived by his nieces, Cheryl Mize and husband Glen, Jordan Anderson and husband Mark, Jillian Schneider and husband Jason, Catlin Donato and husband Jason, Amy Mathis and Allison Mathis as well as nephews Ben Carroll and wife Iona, Brad Carroll and wife Danna, Michael Mathis and wife Amanda, Stephen Mathis, and many beloved great nieces and nephews.
George worked for Atmos Energy for over 40 years and was a past board member of the Atmos Credit Union. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and coaching sports for Kids, Inc. George was a member of Family Life Church.
George’s favorite times were spent with his granddaughter who lovingly called him “the Old Man” as he often signed his birthday cards to his “Megle.” He loved his trips with Barbara to Las Vegas and Winstar to see shows, spin the slot machines and order virgin pina coladas and Shirley Temples at Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse. George also enjoyed many hunting trips with Tom Richardson, who was so much like a son to him.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Snack Pak 4 Kids, 2406 SW 3rd, Amarillo, Texas 79106, or to the High Plains Food Bank, 815 Ross St. Amarillo, Texas 79102.
The family will receive friends to share stories and memories from 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
