Guillermina Collazo Pérez, 95, of Dumas, Texas, went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 29, 2022.

Guillermina, known to her family and friends as “Guilla”, was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico on April 27, 1927, to Luis Collazo Negron and Maria Perez Perez.  She was one of 16 children in a coffee farm community in the central mountain range of Puerto Rico.

Guilla was married to Jesus Santiago Gonzalez for 52 years, and raised 11 children. Guilla was a hard working woman. She and Jesus owned and operated a coffee and produce farm in the neighborhood of Sabana Grade in Utuado, PR.  She was also an amazing seamstress, making school uniforms and designing clothes for herself and family from store catalog pictures.

Guilla met the Lord Jesus in her late 40’s, but that didn’t stop her from being a fervent Christian. She loved worshiping the Lord thru singing and praise. She was a member of the “Escuadrón Rescate”, a church group with the mission to visit and pray for those in need at home. She made a commitment to the Lord to actively participate in prayer by keeping a list of 40 people she would pray for three times a day.  She was a member of Iglesia Cristiana Monte Olivar and of Iglesia Cristiana de la Profesia.

After Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in 2017, Guilla moved to live with her daughter Maria and son-in-law Paul Lamonica in Dumas Texas. She continued to be a fervent Christian and learned to crochet blankets to give to others. She lovingly made over 100 blankets, which she gave to family and friends, and also donated to the local nursing home. Guilla was full of life, always singing and praising God.

Her health deteriorated over the past few months until the Lord called her home. Guilla was joyful, loving, and full of curiosity.  She had a very sweet and infectious personality. Guilla left a legacy of love and work ethic that will carry on through her family and friends for generations to come.  She will be deeply missed but we all know that we will see her and that beautiful smile again. Her favorite Bible passage was Psalm 91.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jesus, children Ana Cecilia and Nehemias, sons Josue and Ruben, daughter Adalila, grandsons David and Antonio (Toñito), and siblings Luis, Carmelo, Ramon, Dolores, Ana Luisa, and Teodoro.

Survivors include her daughter Maria and husband Paul, of Dumas TX; son Jesus Jr. of Utuado, PR; daughter Sara and husband Tony, of Utuado, PR; son Eli of Utuado, PR; son Samuel and wife Carmen, of Bronx, NY; son David, of Pennsylvania; sister Virginia and husband Angel, of Manhattan, NY; brother Francisco (“Pancho”) and wife Olga, of Morrisville, PA; brother Pedro (“Pello”) and wife Laly, of Pennington, NJ; brother Miguel, of Miami, FL; brother Manuel, of Miami, FL; brother Alfredo and wife Alicia, of Utuado, PR; brother Olfelio (“Fellin) and wife Blanca Estrella, of Utuado PR; brother Octavio, of Utuado, PR; grandson Paul Michael Lamonica, of Amarillo, TX, grandchildren Sara, Lillian, Jonathan, Eli Jr., Noemi, Barbara, Michael, Sue, Miriam, Josue Jr., Jeremías, Ruben Jr., Angelo, Miriam, Ada, Blanca, Jose, Daniel, Gladys; many nieces and nephews; and great-grandchildren.
