Helen Marie Griffin Allen

Helen Marie Griffin Allen, formerly from Perryton, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the age of 94.

Funeral services for Helen will be at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, Texas, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a family only burial in Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton, Texas at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Helen was the only daughter of Elmer Griffin and Alma Fowler Griffin of Erick, Oklahoma.  Helen had a wonderful childhood and family life and was very proud of her upbringing and hometown, so much so that later in life she and her husband Kenneth purchased her family farm to keep that connection with her roots.  Helen was an only child but had a large gathering of cousins and extended family that she loved dearly.  This love of family led her to the study of her Ancestry and Genealogy later in life that became a life-long passion for her.

Helen graduated from Erick, Oklahoma High School and followed that education up with a business school degree that led her to a long-life career as owner and manager of her own bookkeeping service in Perryton, TX. Helen flourished in this field and was highly sought after by businesses and individuals alike for her expertise and knowledge.

Helen married Kenneth Jack Allen on May 31, 1947, in Wellington, Texas. All her married life to Kenneth, she was the picture of a supporting and loving wife and partner. Kenneth was the love of her life, always supporting yet testing each other daily. Together they had two daughters, Susan Anita Allen and Polly Elizabeth Allen Hill, where Helen flourished as their mother. Raising these girls was Helen’s biggest joy, only to be exceeded as a friend to her daughters when they reached adulthood.  Through their daughters, Helen and Kenneth gained grandchildren Kristen, Andrew, Brian, and Jonathan-these children and grandchildren were the light of their lives.  Helen was a devoted grandmother to them and she instilled a love for history, research, and determination in her grandchildren that is with them still today.  The hardest things for Helen were the loss of her grandson Jonathan and daughters Susan and Polly. She never forgot them and always kept their love and loss with her daily. It was through Helen’s faith and love of family and God that carried her through these losses. According to her family, Helen was the kindest most loving person they knew setting a true example of love and compassion for one another.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Kenneth Allen, her daughters Susan and Polly, and grandson Jonathan.

Helen is survived by her grandchildren Kristen Hill and spouse, Andrew Allen-Aguilar and Brian Allen-Aguilar, and great-grandson Jackson Caddell.  Also survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.  The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, 321 South Baylor Street Perryton, TX  79070 or charities of your choice.
