Henry “Tom” Sooter passed away on November 27, 2022, in Dallas, TX surrounded by his family.  Tom was born in Amarillo, Texas on January 31, 1942.  He graduated from Woodward High School, Woodward Oklahoma, in 1961 and in 1963 enlisted in the US Navy, where he proudly served his country for 20 years.  He went on to work in the oil field in Perryton, Texas for the next 23 years.  He then retired in Amarillo, Texas.  Wanting to be closer to his family, he moved to the DFW area where he spent his final days.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sue, and siblings Becky Pearson (Tom – husband, Woodward, OK, Buddy Thompson (Decatur, TX), and Trisha Briscoe (Pat – husband, Amarillo, TX).  Tom and Sue had two children, Clayton (Sam) Sooter (Lauren – wife, Arlington, TX), and Kelly Jo (Jody) Sooter.  He had two grandchildren, Sami Hodge (Tref –husband) Nicholas (Khale) Sooter (Allie – wife), and 8 great-grandchildren, Lane, Creed, Luke, Kane, Connor, Julian, Alton, and Elliot who loved to call him Paw-Paw.

Tom was an avid hunter and spent his younger years camping, fishing, and boating with his family. Anyone that knew Tom knew he was an enthusiastic Oklahoma Sooner fan.

There will be a celebration of life at Sam and Lauren’s home on December 10, 2022, at noon. 1112 Prairie Ridge Lane, Arlington, TX  76005.

  2. Our Hearts are heavy knowing Tom is not amongst us anymore. Tom was an amazing man, we always felt so comfortable visiting he and Sue, even when Jody was working. Rick and I both felt like Tom and Sue were our Texas parents. Cherished times will always be remembered. “Rest in peace dear friend”.

  3. We are deeply saddened by the news of Tom’s passing. We will cherish the memory of our time together as part of the crew of USS Josephus Daniels CG 27.

  6. oh my God I’m so sorry to hear this I’ve tried calling several times and no one answers and I thought maybe you had changed your phone number so I’m so sorry so you know how much I love you and Tom and your family it breaks Bart if I could be there I’d be there for you love sympathy and prayers go out to you Jodi and Sam and your family from us and Jay and Misty Mayden
