Herbert Harold Hogue, 83, of Amarillo, TX and formerly of Dalhart, TX, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Herbert was born February 11, 1940, at the Loretta Hospital in Dalhart, TX to Harold Hartman Hogue and Louise Angel Hogue.  Herbert went to school in Dalhart and graduated in 1958, from Dalhart High School, where he was active in the FFA program.  He also was on the tennis team, and an avid golfer, winning several tournaments along the way.  He enjoyed bowling and was on teams throughout his life.  After graduation from DHS he studied at Texas Christian University.  Herbert joined the National Guard in the 1960’s and at the same time he returned to Dalhart to become involved in the family farm business with his father and together raised wheat, maize and corn.

Herbert married Evelyn Mitchell on April 24, 1966, in Dalhart, TX and she became his partner in farming for 42 years until her passing in 2006.

In 2015, Herbert married the second love of his life, Vicki Lynne Knowlton Wilhelm, in Amarillo, TX.  Their favorite hobbies were traveling and golfing.

For many years, Herb was a member of First Christian Church in Dalhart, TX serving as deacon.  He also was a member of the Tascosa Golf Club where he had many special friends.

Herbert is survived by his wife Vicki Hogue, of Amarillo, TX;  two sisters, Carol Sublette, of Dalhart, TX, and Jeannie Sylvester, of Amarillo, TX; stepson, Cody Wilhelm, and wife Quita of Canyon, TX; sister-in-law, Helen Benefiel of Oklahoma City, OK; many cousins including  very close cousins, Jim Scott, Joel Hogue and wife Madonna, Susan Allen, and Terri Newman; stepgrandchildren, Jacob, Garet, Sarah, Quaid, and Samantha; great-grandchild, Chandler; three nieces, Stephanie Turpin and husband Kipper, of Aurora, CO, Cathryne Sublette, of Lubbock, TX, and Julie Ellis, Oklahoma City, OK; three nephews, Jarrod Hutchison and wife Lisa, of Dalhart, TX, and Charles Sublette, also of Dalhart, TX, and John Smithson of Enid, OK; great-nephews, Seth Turpin and Zakk Turpin; and step great-niece, Kristen Calhoun.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Ronald McDonald House, American Cancer Society, Texas Oncology, or Amarillo Food Bank.

He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” —John 11:20-25.

  6. For no reason I thought of Herbert.
    I googled to find he had passed
    We went to School together as kids
    Probably 12 years old.
    We were friends and he had a great sense of humor. He told me he wanted to be a farmer.
    So strange to remember that.
