Hermon B. Keel

Hermon B. Keel, 92, passed away Tuesday, May 17th, 2022, in Amarillo, TX.

 

He was born and raised near Grove Hill, Alabama. He was baptized at

the age of 10 and attended Baptist churches throughout his life.  Keel entered the United States Army, Air Corp, in 1946 and transferred to the US Air Force one year later.  He earned his original driver’s license in San Antonio, Texas during basic training when an officer told him to get in a jeep and drive him across the base.  Keel served in the military for 20 years and retired as a Tech Sergeant in 1967.  He was stationed on the island of Guam in the South Pacific Ocean; Fairbanks, Alaska; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; Riverside, California; Littlerock, Arkansas; Bangor, Maine; Amarillo, Texas and Clovis, New Mexico. He met and married Roylene Hawkins Keel in New Mexico in 1956.  Mr. Keel was a flight line mechanic at Bell Helicopter in Amarillo and at Lockheed Martin in Lubbock. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M and achieved the 33rd degree through the Palo Duro Masonic Lodge no. 1239 of Amarillo.   He enjoyed Bluegrass music, cornbread, and beef stew as well as reading the Holy Bible and the local newspaper. Mr. and Mrs. Keel had three sons.

 

He was preceded in death by his son Jason Keel in 2020.

 

Mr. Keel is survived by his wife Roylene of Amarillo, sons Curtis Keel, a USAF Master Sgt. (retd.) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Collin Keel, a teacher of

Lubbock, Texas.

 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27th, 2022, at 2:00 P.M., at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Amarillo, TX.

 

He will be missed by his immediate family, many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors.
