James “Jim” Allen Smith

James “Jim” Allen Smith, 84, of Amarillo, TX passed away peacefully in his home on May 23, 2023.

Graveside Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 16, 2023, at Llano Cemetery with Chris Robeson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jim was born in El Paso, Texas on September 17, 1938, to Lillie Christine Collier Smith and Newton Edward Smith.

He grew up in Tahoka, Texas then moved to Grand Prairie, Texas. where he graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1957.  He joined the Air Force after high school and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for 3 years. After returning, he attended Arlington College, Amarillo College and West Texas State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration.  He was employed by Shamrock Oil & Gas for 2 years before being hired at Pantex in 1966 where he worked for 37 years.  He married Mary Jo Roberson in 1964 and for fifty-seven years they shared their love for family, working in the yard, gardening, and the Dallas Cowboys.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo, his parents, a sister Mary Beth Ferguson, and brother-in-law Kenneth Ferguson.

Jim is survived by one brother Joe Smith of Murchison, Texas, his son Derek Smith and wife Michelle of Amarillo; a daughter Nikki Robeson and her husband Chris of Longview, Texas; eight grandchildren, Mackenzie Romero and husband Jordan, Mason Smith, Carson Smith, and Reese Smith all of Amarillo; Micayla Robeson, Kaitlyn Robeson, Payton Robeson and Ashlyn Robeson of Longview, Texas, and 3 great-grandchildren, Merrick, Landrie and Kennedy Romero of Amarillo.

In lieu of flowers,

the family requests memorials to be made to the Mary Jo Smith Memorial Scholarship account for students at Randall High School, c/o Happy State Bank/ Derek and Michelle Smith or BSA Hospice of the Southwest.
