Jane Flesher Juett, 95, passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas with family by her side.  Jane was born in Canyon, Texas on February 14, 1927 to May Ballard Flesher and William Jackson Flesher.  She was their Valentine surprise and youngest of 4 children.   A few months after Jane arrived the family moved to Amarillo. Jane was immediately enrolled in the Cradle Class at Polk Street Methodist Church where she remained a member of the church throughout her entire life.

Jane was a spunky little girl and had lots of pets but her love was horses.  Being 9 years younger than the sibling before her she had full attention of her parents.   They had horses at their home on Van Buren Street and every Sunday after church the three of them went riding.  She also rode everyday after school with her friends.  She was quite an accomplished horse-woman.

Jane graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945.  At Amarillo High she met the love of her life, William Earl “Bill” Juett.   They married a year after graduation and had son William Dana Juett the next year.  They soon moved to Ft. Worth so Bill could attend and play football at TCU.  After Bill graduated, they returned to Amarillo and had two more children, daughter, Melissa Ann Juett and son, James Andrew Juett.

After their move back to Amarillo Jane started her career at Santa Fe Railway where she worked until retirement in 1985.  She was not a sit at home kind of gal and in 1987 she announced, much to the surprise of the family, and to Bill, that she had purchased the Kitchen Gallery, a retail shop in Wolflin Square.   She had the shop until it closed in 2009.

Jane’s list of community involvement and activities is too numerous to list.  She did not understand the meaning of the word ‘No’ as she wanted to help and assist anyone and everyone.  One of her true passions was the Republican Party.  She and Bill worked tirelessly for the GOP when being Republican was not so popular, and was much to the dismay of both their Democrat parents.  She was one the founders of the Amarillo Republican Women’s club and remained a member for almost 60 years until her health declined.  Some of her friends referred to her as the “Barbara Bush of Amarillo”!

Jane received many awards and accolades, again too many to list, as she always worked hard for the betterment of the cause or organization.  If Jane said she would do something you could be assured she would.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 55 years, William Earl “Bill” Juett, beloved son, William Dana Juett, and three siblings, brother, William James Flesher, sisters, Henrietta Flesher Saunders, Mary Flesher Holmes.  Survivors include her two children, daughter, Melissa Juett Kalka (Ray) of Amarillo, son, James Andrew Juett (Donna) of Argyle, Texas, eight grandchildren, Cameron Kalka (Jennifer) of Austin, TX, Coleman Kalka, and Chase Kalka (Sara), of Amarillo, Will Juett (Angela) of Alpine, TX, and Katherine Juett of Dallas, TX, Karlee Juett of Dallas, TX, Jacob Juett of Denver, CO, and Kristen Juett Hatfield (Joey) of Dallas, TX.  Her seven great-grandchildren include Hannah and Jackson Juett, of Alpine, Pace and Scout Kalka of Austin, and Cannon, Hayes and Banks Kalka of Amarillo.   Katherine Lupton Juett of Dallas, TX, widow of Dana Juett, and Gwynne Underwood Juett of Fredericksburg, Texas, mother of Dana’s children.  Jane also had several nieces and nephews that she was very fond of to include Bob Flesher (Bonnie) of Flint, Texas, Jack Flesher (Taiko) of Amarillo, and Mike Holmes (Pat) of Wilton, New Hampshire.

The family would like to thank the staff at Goodlife Senior Living and Memory Care and Enhabit Hospice for the compassion, loving care and friendship they showed in caring for Jane. They made such a difference in her last years.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Monday, February 13, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd. There will be a private interment and a memorial service will follow at Polk Street Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk Street, at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 14, 2023.   In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Polk Street Methodist Church in Jane’s memory or a charity of your choice.
