Jaxson “Jax” Erik Mendoza

Jaxson “Jax” Erik Mendoza, 14, of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 30, 2022, in Hillside Christian Church, main auditorium with Shawn Freeby officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jaxson was born January 2, 2008, to Gabe and Apryl Mendoza in Amarillo, TX. He was the best big brother to his sister, Lauryn Mendoza. Jax attended Windsor Elementary, Bonham Middle School and Amarillo High.

Jax was a natural born athlete that loved all sports, but his first love and his whole heart was baseball. He started swinging a bat when he was 2 years old and never stopped. He was looking forward to try- outs this year for the AHS baseball team. Jax loved playing basketball and also enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He recently got involved with Extreme Martial Arts and had great pride in earning his white belt and was working hard to test for his next one. He loved playing Fortnite with his buddies, and he enjoyed robotics and choir at school. He especially enjoyed doing the SHINE program at Bonham and had a huge heart for children with special needs. He planned on working with special needs children in the future in some capacity.  He attended Hillside Christian Church where he loved playing 9 square and Gaga ball and worshiping Jesus with his friends. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Jax was a gentle warrior who battled epilepsy for 2 years and 10 months. He was courageous in his battle and used every opportunity to try to overcome the setbacks this awful disease caused. He was an example to all of us on how to live life to the fullest and not let anything bring you down or hold you back. He was stubborn, brave, tender hearted, and he loved his friends and family ferociously.

Jaxson was greeted into Heaven by his Opa, Wyley Chaney, on August 25, 2022.

He is survived by his mom and dad Gabe and Apryl, his sister Lauryn, his Oma, Pegi Chaney all of Amarillo, his grandma and grandpa Heriberto and Lupe Mendoza of Muleshoe, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and extended family and friends whom he loved and adored.

His legacy will live on forever and we encourage everyone who knew him to honor him by being kind always and love big.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 P.M. on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the funeral home.
