Jerry Don Wheeler, age 82, of Amarillo, TX passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

Jerry and his wife were lifelong members of Hillside Christian Church and memorial services will be held long away from a date in which the Coronavirus dominates.

An exemplary Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, Jerry was also successful in business, where his success was defined by the close and genuine friendships he built.  His considerable ability in supporting and loving his family was steadfast and self-evident to all who knew him.  He was ever-generous with his family, church, and friends, and set an example of service for all who knew him.  During one of the busiest times in his life, and for more than a decade, he served on and then led the Board of Elders for Paramount Terrace Christian Church (now Hillside), where he left an indelible mark on its trajectory and future.  Jerry also had a wit that filled his friends and family with laughter and sometimes filled his wife with horror.  He was an enthusiastic snacker and could most frequently be found in the pantry.  If not in the pantry, he could be easily found by following the resulting trail of popcorn, crackers or candy that would inevitably appear.  He exemplified the words in Micah 6:8 “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Clorine.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his sister, Beth; son, Darren; daughter Michelle; five grandchildren – Alyssa, Rustin, Chloe, Riley and Rayden; two great-grandchildren, Strattin and Kynlee; and a nephew, Mason.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family requests donations are made in Jerry’s name to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

  2. Sandy, Michelle and Darren, I am so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. God is gathering quite a crew in Heaven. We know they will all be there to greet us when we arrive.

  3. We have such great memories of Jerry & Sandy. Spent many great times at Lake Tanglewood looking at the stars, playing poker on the boat and just enjoying life.
    I’m sure Gene greeted Jerry and they are looking for a spot to play a game of poker‼️‼️‼️

  4. Sandy, so sorry to learn about Jerry.We all will miss Him and His strong beliefs. Will miss our good times at the AHS reunions. Keep your chin up and stay strong. I know that is what He would want to do. Bless all your family.

  7. I am so sorry to hear of Jerry passing away. I had the pleasure of talking and dealing with Jerry for about 20 years in the underground utility business. He was a sweet man, and so calm in his voice. I was his inside sales rep, and even though we never met face to face, he was such a blessing to know and work with; I really missed him when he retired. My prayers are with the family.

  13. Jerry and I got off to a rocky start but after we got to know each other, we really hit it off. I think a lot of Jerry and he will be greatly missed. He is a huge part for making the underground utility business great in the region.
