Jerry F. Waters, 84, of Vega, Texas passed peacefully on May 28, 2023. Jerry’s greatest love and source of pride was his family and his lifelong cattle hauling business. His work ethic and drive to be the best at what he did were beyond measure and words to describe him were kind, friendly, trustworthy, honest, loyal, respected, and dependable to a fault. His unconditional love and support for his family remained strong until his last breath. He was simply a “great man”, Dad, Grandad, Great-Grandad, and friend.

Jerry was born on April 23, 1939, in Altus, Oklahoma to C.N. (Charlie Neal) and Lucy Waters. Jerry’s greatest love and pride was his family. As a youth, he grew up on ranches and enjoyed and loved the ranch life style with his parents and sisters, Charolyn and Sandra. He moved to Vega as a young man, began his family and lifelong legacy in the cattle hauling and ranch working industry. He had three daughters, Kristi, Kimmi, and Keila, and one son, Klay, that were his “pride and joy” and he was the best Dad any child could have ever asked for and provided the best example of love, respect, sacrifice, work ethic, and character. He liked vehicles, horses, cattle, rodeos, historical books, and old TV westerns and he was a wealth of knowledge about the location of any ranch, farm, county road, feedyard, etc. in this part of the world. Jerry’s work and business ethic gained him the respect, admiration, and awe of so many and he took great pride in and cherished his relationships he developed in his business. He was a “fighter” and worked hard until he left this earth.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and a younger sister, Sandra Winnett. He is survived by his daughters, Kristi Waters, Kimmi and husband Jerry Hodges, and Keila and husband Doug Bain, all of Vega; son, Klay and wife Katti Waters, of Abilene; 14 grandchildren;18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Charolyn Gouldy, of Wildorado.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 19, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Family suggests memorials be made to the Milburn-Price Culture Museum or Vega EMS.
