Jerry Hughes Ammerman, 88, of Amarillo went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2022.

Jerry was born on June 4, 1933, in Woodward, Oklahoma to Carl and Flossie Ammerman. He married the love of his life and best friend Sherril Lynn Baird on July 26, 1954. They were happily married for 64 years. Jerry attended Southwestern State College and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. The couple moved to Amarillo and raised their two children. Jerry owned and operated “Jerry’s Pharmacy” for many years. He had a successful career in pharmacy for over fifty years. He served as a City Commissioner for five terms from 1977-1987.

Jerry loved his friends and family passionately. He especially enjoyed spending time in the mountains with family – attending 4th of July parades, watching fireworks from the deck, making homemade ice cream, and playing with his great-grandchildren. He was and always will be our adored and treasured “Pop”.

Jerry was known for his giving heart, work ethic, integrity, and always putting others before himself. He sponsored many local organizations through the years. He was a member of The Church of Quail Creek. He was the type of man that would give you his last dime if he thought that you needed it more.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Sherril Lynn Ammerman; his father, Carl Ammerman; his mother, Flossie Ammerman; and his brother-in-law, Kenny Shryock.

Survivors include daughter, Deborah Benge and husband Mike, of Amarillo; son, Jerry Ammerman Jr. and wife Kayla of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Tim Benge and wife Kacy, Jeremy Benge and wife Carmen, Elizabeth Ammerman, Lani Williams and husband Michael, and Haley Jones and husband Evan; six great-grandchildren, Berklie, Cayli, Brynli, Kemper, Jude, and Beckett; sister, Sue Shryock of Woodward, Oklahoma; and his beloved cat, KitKat.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at The Church of Quail Creek with Dale Moreland officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
