Jerry Oliver Tucker was born on January 17, 1946, to Jerry Newton Tucker and Mary Helen Jones Tucker, in Clovis, New Mexico. Jerry passed from this life on March 13, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas. Jerry and Phillis Grimes were wed on September 24, 1966, in Mobeetie, Tx. Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Navy in
May of 1965. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Jerry proudly served his country in both the Navy and Marine Corp. as a field medic and was wounded in combat in Vietnam.
When Jerry returned home from service, he worked in many fields and retired from Colorado Interstate Gas Company in Morton County, Kansas. But the career he was most proud of was serving as the Texas County Tax Assessor in Guymon, Ok, where he retired in 2014.
Jerry had a competitive spirit and loved to play softball. His creativity was used in his woodworking. Jerry enjoyed designing, creating, and building. You could find him “tinkering” in his shop, listening to music on weekends and evenings.
Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, James Tucker and Bill Tucker. He is survived by his wife, Phillis Tucker, of the home. He leaves behind his three daughters; Shanna Akers and husband Scott, of Willis, Tx.; Dixie Purdy and husband Chris, of Guymon, Ok.; and Derenda Aranda and husband Auden, of Eva, Ok. Jerry or Papa’s pride and joy were his six grandchildren: Dylan Floyd, Ryan Akers, Ramee Aranda, Carli Purdy, Kyle Akers, and Auden Aranda. In addition, Jerry leaves behind two sisters, Mary Dell Donelson and Judith Wesson, and a host of extended family and friends.
Private services for the family will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

My deepest sympathy on the passing of Jerry. He was an outstanding employee and friend while working at CIG-Morton County. We had some great times!
