Joan Y. Goucher, of Amarillo, passed away October 29, 2019.

Services will be at 2:00pm, Sunday November 10, 2019, at St. Stephen UMC. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Joan was born November 6, 1937, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Donald and Margaret Hummel. She graduated from Hayes County High School and McCook College. She taught elementary school in North Platte, Nebraska and Forest Grove, Oregon.

She married Joel L.P. Goucher, whom she had grown up just a few farms away from, November 3, 1962 in Wallace, Nebraska.  They lived in Salina, Kansas where Joan was a substitute teacher. They moved to Amarillo in 1969. She volunteered at Belmar Elementary School and later worked at Joel Goucher Ins Agency and Advanced Insurance Management.

Through the years she attended hundreds of her boys’ sporting events, Band and Orchestra concerts, and DeMolay events. She loved camping and was very active in camping club, the Fireside Campers. She had been active in Sunday School and home fellowship at St. Stephen UMC.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Carol Jean Hummel.

She is survived by her husband, Joel, of the home, her brother Roger Hummel (Cindy) and sister Jean Hasenauer. Sons Jon (Diane) and Jay (Amy). Grandchildren Katelyn (Tyler), Taylor (Bekah), Jessica, Ava, and Alison.

In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

  1. Joel, Jon any Jay: We are so sorry for your loss. I will always picture aunt Joan with her reading glasses sitting low on her nose and a book in her hand.
