Joe was born June 4, 1966, in Amarillo, Tx to Joe Ike Underwood and Mary Ellen (Bishop) Underwood. He was a proud father to 4 children and “Uncle Joe” to several loving nephews and nieces. He served in the nursery at Hillside Christian Church for many years and loved seeing “his kids” learn and grow. Joe was a truck driver for Public Steel for over 20 years and greatly enjoyed his time spent on the road. He loved what he did and enjoyed meeting new people and seeing new places. He never met a stranger. Joe ended his career working for the City of Amarillo in the Solid Waste Department.

The family will receive friends from 9 am-noon Monday, December 19 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral home, 2800 paramount Blvd. Afterward, a  memorial service will be held in his honor Monday, December 19, at 2:00 PM at Hillside Christian Church, 6100 S Soncy Rd, in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Hillside Christian Church to support church camp scholarships.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Justin Zinmer, and 2 grandbabies.

He is survived by his sisters, Connie Sechrist and Ellen Zinmer, his 4 children, Josh Jentsch and wife Diona, Mady Byrd and husband Ben, Danny Marlin and wife Linda, and Amber Boggs and husband Curtis, as well as 8 grandkids, and

numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

  1. There are no words big enough to tell what a kind and generous man Joe was. His walk with God was a good one. Now he is in His presence.
