John Brown Fulton III, 69, of Amarillo, TX left this world suddenly on July 10, 2022.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Jon Kohler officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

John was born to John and Peggy Jo on October 20, 1952, in Wichita Falls, TX. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1971.

John met Jan in May of 1976, and the two married on July 4, 1976.

John was an on On-Air talent and an engineer for 40+ years for various radio stations, including but not limited to KLUR in Wichita Falls, KDJW, KQFX, KBUY94 FM / KTNZ (1010 AM), and KATP.

John started his law enforcement career at Potter County in 2000. He later went to work for Lake Tanglewood as an Officer from 12/08/08 – 7/01/18, and then as the Chief of Police at Lake Tanglewood from 7/01/18 – 7/10/22.

John had been a member of the Khiva Shrine since October of 1995. He was President of Mule Skinners, President of the Director Staff, and a Master Mason. He was also a Boy Scout leader, a member of the FOP: Fraternal Order of Police, and a Fire Boy for the Coors Cowboys Club.

John had many names: John, Ron Solo, Shotgun Kelly, Dad, Granddad, Chief, and Popo.

He was preceded in death father, John Brown Fulton II; mother, Peggy Jo Adams; step-father, Boo Adams; grandparents, JH and Ruby Allison, and John and Beatrice Fulton

Survived by his wife, Jan Fulton; son, John Fulton IV and wife Heather of Amarillo, TX; granddaughter, Jinaye and husband Michael Williams of Amarillo, TX; grandson, Kash Price of Amarillo, TX; sister, Brenda and husband Aron Anderson of Wichita Falls, TX; brother, Steve Fulton of Wichita Falls, TX; and many nephews, nieces, and other extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations to be made in John’s name to the Khiva Shrine, 305 South East 5th Ave., Amarillo, TX, 79101, or to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 57, Cops and Kids Shopping, P.O. Box 2283, Amarillo, Texas 79105.

  3. Jan – Dyan and I have many good memories of Shotgun at the radio stations. John helped us pack up when we left Amarillo for North Dakota in 2017. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family.   4. Dale and I are so very sorry to hear of the passing of John! I will always remember our early days in DA school, meeting our forever guys and getting on Nita’s last nerve! Lol. I’m so glad you had so many years with John and wish they could have gone on longer but forever is ahead and he will be waiting for you! Love you and prayers for your family for peace and comfort.
