John C. Yost Jr., 76, of Amarillo, TX passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2019, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Jeff Keele of The Church of Christ at The Colonies officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

John was born in April 1943, in Morgantown, WV to John C. Yost, Sr. and Carolyn Yost.  John graduated from Barnwell High School, SC, joined the Navy, and served on the USS Skate.  He went on to graduate from Clemson University, majoring in Electrical Engineering.

John married Cynthia Yost in 1967.  They moved to Amarillo, TX shortly after and had two children, Kira Dunavin, and John Yost, III.  John and Cindy moved to Denver, CO in 1996 to work for Xcel Energy and returned to Amarillo, TX upon retirement.

John loved spending time with his wife Cindy, his family and friends, and his grandchildren.  John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, was a jack of all trades and enjoyed working with his hands.   John volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Yost Sr. and Carolyn Yost; and a brother, Gary Yost.

John is survived by his wife, Cynthia Yost; his daughter, Kira Dunavin and husband Billy, of Amarillo, TX; his son, John Yost III and wife Sarah, of San Jose, CA; and his grandchildren, Will, Lane, Madeline, and John IV.  He is also survived by his sister, Sandy Brockington and husband Bill, of Westminster, SC, and a cousin, Fredreka Lucero and husband Mark, of Albuquerque, NM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Meals on Wheels.

  1. So sorry for your loss. John and I were high school classmates and graduated 1961. He and his family lived up the street from me. It was such shock to hear of his passing. Praying your family will be comforted during this time.

  2. Cynthia, I read about John’s passing in “The State”. I am so sorry! John was a great friend to me in high school and at Clemson. We hunted, camped, and messed around together for all those good years. As you may remember, we nick-named him “Rabbit” as he was good at shooting rabbits from the fender of a car during our camping trips – at night, of course. We also painted the water tanks together – “Srs. of “61”. We probably did some other things which I should not put in print. As I said, he was a great friend! I’ll ask God to give him a hug for me!

  3. So sorry to read of John’s passing. It was a shocker to hear the news. I will inform known Family Members. Sorry for your loss and you have our deepest sympathy. I remember John’s early new Mustang. Bless you all
