John Frederick Tyson departed this earth from Amarillo, Texas on August 27, 2023. He would have been 96 on September 5, and died of natural causes. John was born in Skidmore, Missouri in 1927. He married his loving wife, Rosemartha, in 1969 although having no children together, John became the

patriarch to daughter Rosemartha Cates (Jim). He was the most loving grandfather to their children; Tyson, Ashton (Maria), and Vanessa (Ricky). He was also a great-grandfather to Parker Cates, Ashton Savage, and Mara Cates.

Mr. John was known for his composure, gentleness, and always carrying a pen in his neatly pressed shirt pocket. John was previous chairman of the Randall County Republican Party, and a member of the Downtown Rotary Club, also being a Paul Harris Fellow.

He served in Germany after WWII as part of the OSS stationed in Stuttgart, Germany.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, and three siblings. He will be greatly missed.

  1. John was a fine sales representative for Pearson Furniture and Hekman. I always appreciated his assistance with my Interior Design business. He was a true gentleman. I always enjoyed John and Rosemartha, they were a good team.
