Johnie Robbins, 91, of Amarillo, TX passed away on May 18, 2023.

Memorial Services will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the Ware Chapel at Polk St. Methodist Church with Reverend Stephania Gilkey officiating. Private Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Johnie was born in Slaton, Texas on February 5, 1932, to Lee Davis Peebles and Lela Uda Russell Peebles.

Johnie Graduated high school in Slaton and went on to attend

Texas Tech as a music major.  She was married to Homer R. “Bob” Robbins Jr. on January 31, 1952.

She was Co-operator of Robbins Appraisal Service in Amarillo until her husband’s death in 1997. Afterwards she began writing. In 2003, Johnie started Robbins Grips, which began selling ergonomic crutch grips which she designed, developed, and got into production. She was also very active in several local social organizations, Member P.E.O., a Life Member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, and a longtime member of Polk Street Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by, her parents, Lee Davis Peebles and Lela Uda Russell Peebles; husband, Homer R. “Bob” Robbins, Jr.; and a brother and sister.

Survivors include her children; Homer Robbins of Austin, Texas, Wesley Robbins of Amarillo, Texas, Suzanne Robbins of Midland, Texas, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests Memorials be made to Polk St. Methodist Church

  1. Johnie and her husband were good friends with my mother and dad. They were both quick witted and friendly, always a joy to be around.

  2. I got to know Johnie through a writing group. She was such a delightful person. Her passion for writing about her father’s military service, her advice on my writing, and her friendship, humor, wit, and grace gave me many wonderful memories that I will always cherish. My heart is with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her many friends. She was such a special lady!

  3. We will miss you sweet friend!! You were a delight to all who knew you. We loved going out to eat and singing in sanctuary choir, you sang in the senior choir too! The Hallelujah Class Sunday School will miss you but mòst of all your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and then all your friends that loved you!! We shall meet again!! Lovingly, B J.

    1. Johnie was the greatest neighbor anyone could ask for and was always so good to our family! My life is richer because I knew her! I will miss you sweet friend! May you rest in the arms of Our Heavenly Father!
