Joyce Marie Tucker Rich, 83, formerly Adrian, TX passed away on September 10, 2022.

Joyce was born in a small dug-out in McCurtain County Oklahoma on June 5, 1939, to Elzie Washington and Ona Eliza Helton- Tucker.  She grew up in the hills of Oklahoma graduating from Smithville Highschool in 1959.  She moved to Noble and then later to Oklahoma City working at the OU Sooner Soda Shop and later Streets Department Store before moving to Adrian, Texas in 1962.

She met and married Dick Rich on August 11, 1963. They purchased their home at 407 Walnut and together built Dick’s Garage and Wrecker Service, operating it for 51 years, and there raised their children.

Joyce’s spiritual gift was that of a hostess. She always had enough room at her table for one more and plenty of food on the table to fill that one more.  She was known for her fabulous food and cooked at several cafes before opening her own, The Outpost. Many travelers stopped for her cream pies.  She loved greeting people and serving as hostess at the Adrian Baptist Church.  Joyce visited the lonely and the ill and the newcomers in town.

In 1966, after working with the Cub Scouts, she founded the first Brownie/Girl Scout Troup in Adrian.  She worked with girls for over 10 years taking them to camp each summer, helping to develop them, and provided experiences they might not otherwise of had.

Joyce loved her family and friends. She enjoyed coffee at the round table with friends and was always ready for a road trip or other adventure.

Joyce moved to Fort Supply, Oklahoma to be near her daughter in 2020 and took her exit from this life in Buffalo, Oklahoma on September 10, 2022.

Joyce was preceded in life’s journey by her parents; four brothers, JW, Paul, Bill, and Junior; one infant sister; her husband, Dick; and son, Dale.  Remaining to mourn are her son, Steve Rich (Carla); daughter, Tonda White (Todd); three grandchildren, Tara (Daniel) Andrea/Mitchell, Ti White (Sonia), and Tialyn John (Gabe); 6 Great-grandchildren, Samantha Leopold, Presten Andrea (Jacee), Brylee and Maysen White, Akira and Kahlia John; and one great-grandson due in October 2022.

  1. So what Bible word do you think best describes Sister Joyce?

    Obviously to Dick it would be wife;
    To Tonda and her brothers it would be mom!
    And, of course, there are those who will forever know her as Grand Ma Rich!
    Or Sister
    Or Mother-in-law
    CoWorker
    Neighbor
    Friend
    And there are so many Biblical passages which describe each of those names;
    But is there perhaps a word that would speak of all of these characteristics and the many others that each of us can add to Sister Joyce’s titles!

    And this evening, I have settled on a word

    SERVANT
    Because as all observed Sister Joyce had far more titles than I can remember! But we all should recognize that she carried each of these titles because of her SERVANT HEART!!!!!!!!!!!

    May each of our Precious Memories bring us Peace In The Valley as we walk toward That Glad Reunion Day!
    Sister Joyce, I will miss your smile and sweet words of encouragement! And I Will Meet You In The Morning

  2. I’m so sorry for your loss. Joyce was a wonderful friend to Nannie and my parents. Prayers for peace and wonderful memories.
