Judi Bippus, 81, of Amarillo, Texas went to be with the Lord, her Savior, on Monday, June 21, 2021.

Visitation is Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers from 2-3:30 pm.  Funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary on Monday June 28, 2021, at 11 am.

Judi was born in Dallas, TX and lived there until she was about 15 years when she moved to Amarillo, TX.

She attended Stephen F. Austin school where she was active in the band and twirling.  She had the honor of naming the school annual Bear Tracks.

At Amarillo High School Judi sang in the choir, participated in the band, and orchestra.  She played the flute and piccolo.  She won many metals in the UIL contests playing the flute and taught twirling.  She attended West Texas State and participated in the band and twirling. While at WT she met her husband to be, a Chemical Engineer attending Texas Tech.  They were married for 61 wonderful years.

Judi was highly accomplished in taking shorthand and typing and took a job as a legal secretary.  She could do both as fast as someone could talk. She continued to use shorthand all her life.  She would write the children’s Christmas presents list in shorthand and when they asked what they were getting she would just refer them to the list, which they could not read.  She also worked for the IRS and after the children were grown, she became the church secretary at Avondale Baptist Church.

Judi was a devoted mother and always put the needs of her children first.  She was also a highly accomplished English student and could define and spell just about anything.  People would call her and ask her for help with proper punctuation for their schoolwork.  She attended all her children’s sporting events sometimes going to two a night.  She was a member of the Volunteers in Public Schools (V.I.P.S.) program as well as the PTA.

Judi loved to fish and for years accompanied her husband to New Mexico, Colorado, Alaska, and Canada.  She had a real sense of adventure when they camped out in the wilderness of Alaska.  She had to dive headfirst in the boat one time when a grizzly bear came out of the bushes behind her.  They traveled as far north as the Arctic Ocean in the quest to find bigger and more elusive fish.

Judi was true servant of her God accepting Jesus Christ at an early age and working tirelessly for His Kingdom.  As an accomplished musician she was the children’s choir director playing both the organ and piano.  She was the Vacation Bible School director and sang many solos in church.  At First Baptist Church she was an active member of the O’Dell Sunday school class which she loved.  She hosted an annual hamburger party in the spring and a dessert sing-along of Christmas carols for the class during the winter.

Judi always had a beautiful smile even when she was experiencing health issues, but never quit smiling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lula Bingham and her nephew John E. Birge.

Survivors include her husband, Dale Bippus, her son Kirt Bippus, daughter Krisy Ribble and her sons Luke and Jordan Ribble, son Kendal Bippus and wife Krystal Bippus and their daughter Brooke Bippus, sister Patsy Birge and her son Martin Birge.
