Judith Ann Parsons, 80, of Alpine, passed away April 3, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas.

Born in Canyon, Texas, Judy was a beloved sister, aunt, and teacher. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from West Texas State

University in Canyon, (now West Texas A&M University) and Master of Arts in History and Political Science from the University of Texas in Austin. She received an honorary doctorate in History from the Board of Regents of the Texas State University System.

Judy taught for 50 years at Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX. Her half-century of continuous full-time employment is thought to be the longest tenue in the university’s history.  In addition to teaching, advising, sponsoring student organizations, publishing her own research, and coordinating conferences, Judy handled a list of duties as special assistant to the President of Sul Ross.

Judy was very active in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Alpine.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, as 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Alpine.

She is survived by sister, Bobbye Van Dyke; nieces, Lisa Guasp and Shannon Puckett; great nieces, Autumn Guasp and Taylor Puckett.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Alpine.

    Spent many hours with Judy during our growing up days in Canyon. She was a very nice lady.
