Judy Ann Latham, 78, Amarillo, TX breathed her last breath of earth air on August 8, 2022, and moved into God’s timeless realm where He has assured that the sufferings of this life are not worth comparing to the eternal glory He has promised.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, August 12, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Central Church of Christ in the Chapel with Gene Shelburne officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Judy was born on January 6, 1944, in Mannford, Oklahoma, the middle of the three siblings born to her parents, Margaret and Arlie Dunegan. While Judy was still a babe, her parents moved to Terlton, Oklahoma, where she started first grade. Pursuing an agricultural opportunity, her family moved to rural northern Arkansas where Judy began second grade at small town Violet Hill, where Judy formed three fabulous, lifelong friends. (In fact, Judy formed lifelong friendships wherever she went.)

Drought conditions ultimately forced the family to move back to Keystone, Oklahoma, to live with her grandparents from both sides of the family to recover financially and pay off debt incurred by the Arkansas drought. (Judy did not emerge from early wealth, which is probably what drove her to be a great budget manager and frugal bargain shopper all her life.) As circumstances improved, the family was able to buy a modest home in west Tulsa where Judy lived until she graduated Tulsa Central High School in 1961, after which she worked briefly for an insurance company and Bell Telephone.  Two years later she moved to Amarillo, Texas, to attend the Amarillo Bible Training Work.  Upon moving to Amarillo, Judy took a job with Pioneer Natural Gas Company before eventually working at Pantex.

Judy met her husband, Lyndon, through their involvements in the Amarillo Bible study program. They were married on June 6, 1964, and had the great blessing of being able to celebrate together their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary. Through their entire married life, they have served as a team in Christian ministry.

Judy gave up her Pantex employment when she decided to devote the next portion of her life more fully to being a homemaker and a mother to her eventual three children. The children will all testify that she was the consummate mother, and her husband will affirm that she was as splendid a wife and homemaker as humanity is capable of attaining. After all the children were well established in school, she served as a substitute teacher in high demand for the River Road Independent School District. As the years moved on, she spent more than the last quarter of a century as a serving member of the Anna Street Church of Christ and as a staff member of Amarillo’s non-profit Christian Relief Fund. And, in the more mature days she rejoiced exuberantly at the birth of each of her nine grandchildren. Always busy, at age 54 she obtained her real estate license from the state of Texas and served a number of clients as a realtor for almost a decade.

Space will not allow the number of words required to pass on all the effusive tributes that have flooded in by phone, text, and email praising her effervescent personality, her famous hospitality, her care for the elderly, and her examples of loving service. The list goes on!

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Arlie Dunegan.

She is survived by her husband, Lyndon, of the home; two daughters, Devonna Hunter, with husband Ashley, of Coppell, TX, and Kendra Rosenbaum, with husband Christopher, of Coppell; a son, Clint Latham, with wife Lachelle, of Amarillo; her older brother, Joe Dunegan, of Locust Grove, OK; her younger brother, Gary Dunegan and wife Bettye, of Tulsa, OK; nine grandchildren listed in order of birth: Maggie Hunter Wainerdi, with husband Brandon, Jacob Hunter, Rooks Hunter, Payton Rosenbaum, Courtney Latham, Luke Rosenbaum, Brooke Latham, Jia Rosenbaum, and Tucker Latham.

Memorial gifts would be welcomed by the Christian Relief Fund or Anna Street Church of Christ.

  1. Lyndon, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God be with you and yours and give you all peace and comfort knowing that Judy is at peace with our Lord.

  2. Heartfelt Sympathy for Lyndon and all of his and Judy’s family. Judy will forever hold a place in my heart. We haven’t seen each other in so many years but memories will never be forgotten. I’ve know Judy
and Lyndon for a long long time. I stayed with Judy and June Farr whenI first went to the Bible training in Amarillo. Just went for a weekend and ended up staying. I ended up wearing some of June Farr’s clothes because everyone got tired if seeing me in the same clothes day after day. Wonderful ladies and a wonderful experience at the Bible training. My heart and love goes out to Lyndon and all the family and friends! Terry Stephens Jordan

  3. Many prayers are being sent up to God asking for His special comfort for Lyndon and all the family. So many precious memories surface at time like these and are such blessings. Hang on to those memories and share them and we pray you get much comfort. We love you and continue to pray for you.

  4. God bless Lyndon and the family. Judy was a beautiful and wonderful Christian. I have a fond memory that I shared with Judy at Synago in Springdale, AR several years ago.
Mom and dad often gave a ride to Judy Dunegan Laythan for church in Sand Springs on Sundays when she lived in west Tulsa prior to her graduating high school. I was about 5 years younger and a pre-teen. I had a crush on her because of her beauty, loving kind spirit, and the impression young shy boys get from girls who pay them just a bit of attention.
I’d like to think that Alvin and Dorothy Langford had some small part in Judy’s development of her walk with Christ. This led to her eventually going to the Amarillo training work where she and Lyndon began their 58 years of marriage and wonderful family. The rest is more than history, it is God’s hand to paint the beautiful picture of Christians serving the church and giving honor and glory to their Lord.

  5. I first met Judy when her children were going to River Road and she was working as a substitute. She was always my substitute of choice anytime I was going to be out. She literally saved me and the students when I went out on maternity leave. I knew everything would be handled correctly and the students were in good hands. Judy was such a beautiful lady–inside and out. I know she will be missed by all who knew her. Prayers for the family have been lifted up and will continue to be. Bless you all.

  6. Sending my heartfelt condolences to you Lyndon and all of the lovely family you and Judy share. Such a graceful, beautiful and sweet countenanced lady Judy was to the world. May you all find peace and comfort in each other and the friends and family who surround you.

    Much love and prayers,

  7. To a very special family and great friends, My wife Linette Owens Thompson and Judy developed a life time friendship during the time spent at the Amarillo Bible Training Work. Linette and I married Nov. 9th in Sepulveda, CA and after military duty we moved back to Amarillo and attended church at the Fairlane Church of Christ where Lyndon and Judy were working. Lyndon and I both had a great love of Southern Gospel singing and formed a quartet with Lyndon, Pat Smith, and Steve Martin, and myself. We considered them our dearest friends and have always considered them as such. They were very special leaders in the Church and have had a very profound affect on the lives of hundreds of people that love them dearly as we have through out the years. Judy was loved by so many, including our family and will be missed, but what a blessing she is enjoying now as another of God’s servants that is at home with Jesus. She has won the race and we are so thankful that we were allowed to be friends with them. May He lift you up and bless you all as you celebrate Judy’s life and your lives as one of His special families in His service. We love you, Larry & Linette Thompson

  9. Judy and I both came to Amarillo from Oklahoma to attend the Amarillo Bible Training Work. We came from different towns, but knew each other as she often visited relatives in Sand Springs where I lived and I would see her at church. She was always such a sweet girl who grew into a lovely Christian woman. I admired her so much for her dedication to her family and the church. My prayers go out to Lyndon and the rest of the family. May God give them peace and comfort during this difficult time. We will see you again someday Judy. Until then rest easy sweet lady.

  10. Love to Judy’s family; such a special one. Am always thankful for Judy as she was so kind to my mom, Edna Corder Hoggins, when mom was attending Anna Street Church of Christ.
