Judy Ann Latham
Judy Ann Latham, 78, Amarillo, TX breathed her last breath of earth air on August 8, 2022, and moved into God’s timeless realm where He has assured that the sufferings of this life are not worth comparing to the eternal glory He has promised.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, August 12, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Central Church of Christ in the Chapel with Gene Shelburne officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Judy was born on January 6, 1944, in Mannford, Oklahoma, the middle of the three siblings born to her parents, Margaret and Arlie Dunegan. While Judy was still a babe, her parents moved to Terlton, Oklahoma, where she started first grade. Pursuing an agricultural opportunity, her family moved to rural northern Arkansas where Judy began second grade at small town Violet Hill, where Judy formed three fabulous, lifelong friends. (In fact, Judy formed lifelong friendships wherever she went.)
Drought conditions ultimately forced the family to move back to Keystone, Oklahoma, to live with her grandparents from both sides of the family to recover financially and pay off debt incurred by the Arkansas drought. (Judy did not emerge from early wealth, which is probably what drove her to be a great budget manager and frugal bargain shopper all her life.) As circumstances improved, the family was able to buy a modest home in west Tulsa where Judy lived until she graduated Tulsa Central High School in 1961, after which she worked briefly for an insurance company and Bell Telephone. Two years later she moved to Amarillo, Texas, to attend the Amarillo Bible Training Work. Upon moving to Amarillo, Judy took a job with Pioneer Natural Gas Company before eventually working at Pantex.
Judy met her husband, Lyndon, through their involvements in the Amarillo Bible study program. They were married on June 6, 1964, and had the great blessing of being able to celebrate together their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary. Through their entire married life, they have served as a team in Christian ministry.
Judy gave up her Pantex employment when she decided to devote the next portion of her life more fully to being a homemaker and a mother to her eventual three children. The children will all testify that she was the consummate mother, and her husband will affirm that she was as splendid a wife and homemaker as humanity is capable of attaining. After all the children were well established in school, she served as a substitute teacher in high demand for the River Road Independent School District. As the years moved on, she spent more than the last quarter of a century as a serving member of the Anna Street Church of Christ and as a staff member of Amarillo’s non-profit Christian Relief Fund. And, in the more mature days she rejoiced exuberantly at the birth of each of her nine grandchildren. Always busy, at age 54 she obtained her real estate license from the state of Texas and served a number of clients as a realtor for almost a decade.
Space will not allow the number of words required to pass on all the effusive tributes that have flooded in by phone, text, and email praising her effervescent personality, her famous hospitality, her care for the elderly, and her examples of loving service. The list goes on!
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Arlie Dunegan.
She is survived by her husband, Lyndon, of the home; two daughters, Devonna Hunter, with husband Ashley, of Coppell, TX, and Kendra Rosenbaum, with husband Christopher, of Coppell; a son, Clint Latham, with wife Lachelle, of Amarillo; her older brother, Joe Dunegan, of Locust Grove, OK; her younger brother, Gary Dunegan and wife Bettye, of Tulsa, OK; nine grandchildren listed in order of birth: Maggie Hunter Wainerdi, with husband Brandon, Jacob Hunter, Rooks Hunter, Payton Rosenbaum, Courtney Latham, Luke Rosenbaum, Brooke Latham, Jia Rosenbaum, and Tucker Latham.
Memorial gifts would be welcomed by the Christian Relief Fund or Anna Street Church of Christ.
