Judy Strawn Herring
Judy Strawn Herring, loving mother and Ommie, 75, of Canyon, TX, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 15, 2023.
Services will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 19, 2023, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. G. A. Roach officiating. Burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, TX. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Judy was born in Littlefield, TX on May 1, 1947, to Doris and Norvell Strawn. She grew up in Bovina, TX, and graduated high school in 1965. She married Tim Herring on August 23, 1968. She received her B.A. in Home Economics from Texas Tech College in 1969 and furthered her education by receiving her elementary certification at West Texas State University. She began her career teaching home economics in Abernathy and retired as an elementary school teacher for Canyon and Amarillo in 2018. Judy and Tim have two daughters, Kellie Herring Renner and Hayley Herring Gibson, who both reside in Canyon. Judy was a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren, who all called her “Ommie”. Ommie was their biggest fan and never missed a sporting event or school activity. She had a special bond with all of her grandchildren. She had daily Uber duties, where she would gain top-secret information from the grandkids. This was her favorite part of the day. You could always find her on the road to a ball tournament or a summer fishing trip to Red River.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norvell and Doris Strawn; her brother, Jerry Strawn; and a nephew, Charlie Strawn.
Survivors include her two daughters, Kellie Herring Renner and husband Casey of Canyon, and Hayley Herring Gibson of Canyon; grandchildren, Blake Herring, Scott Sherrod, Cameron Renner, Grant Neeley, and London Gibson; one brother, Bill Strawn and wife Verna Marie of Spearman; sister, Vicki Richards and husband Leon of Easter; and a sister-in-law, Kay Strawn of Panhandle. Her very special, lifelong friend, Sandy Patterson of Amarillo. Many loving nieces and nephews as well as a host of bonus grandkids that all knew her as Ommie.
Judy loved all animals, so, in lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite pet rescue or animal shelter.
