On May 29, 2021, Karen Gayle Brown, 73, of Amarillo, TX peacefully passed away surrounded by her family and she entered into eternal fellowship with her Lord Jesus.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Trinity Baptist Church with Derek Hall officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Karen was born on November 9, 1947, in Odessa, Texas to Burley and Christine (Fisher) Gressett.  She grew up in Crane, Texas and began her relationship with Christ at age 13.  She was a member of the band and graduated from Crane High School in 1965. Karen attended Angelo State University and West Texas State University. On November 25th, 1967, Karen married the love of her life, Jerry Wayne Brown at the First Baptist Church in Crane, Texas. Jerry and Karen are members of Trinity Baptist Church in Amarillo, TX.

Karen worked in hotel management for several years.  She volunteered with Salvation Army, was involved with the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Women’s Council and the Lead Club.  She and Jerry owned their own business, Needa Courier Service, for 15 years and retired in 2012.  Karen and Jerry loved bowling as well as travelling together over the years, before and after retirement.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Brown. One son, Jarrod Dale Brown. One daughter, Sonya Renee McCubbin (Colin).  Her greatly loved grandchildren, Berkli Celine Furr, Ansley Christine McCubbin, Lainey Renee McCubbin and Colson Craig McCubbin, all of Amarillo.  Brother-in-law Wendell Brown (Susan), Brother-in-law Donnie Brown (Sandy), numerous nieces and nephews, as well as extended family members.  Karen loved and enjoyed time with her family, friends and her dog, Winnie. She loved fishing, skiing, spending time with her family at their cabin in New Mexico and being outdoors.

The family would like to thank the many nurses, therapists and home health workers who helped to care for Karen over the past few years and Boxwell Brothers for their kind care and love.  Many thanks to BSA Hospice; especially Dawn, Cindy, Bobbie, Kristi, Sherri and Dr. Taute.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be sent to Life Action Ministries – Blue Team (lifeaction.org/amccubbin), the Salvation Army or Trinity Baptist Church, Amarillo.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

  1. Jerry, may God bless you and all the family. Karen was my favorite sister from the class of 1966. She was always so truthful, gracious and caring, I know all is going to miss her. Lean on the family and get you a good support group and the ole saying “time will heal” hopefully happens soon. We lost a “good one.” My prayers will go out to you.

  8. Cousin Karen, it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye. We had so much fun when we were kids playing in the barn until we saw a snake. We laughed a lot and cried over boyfriends. I will see you again one day but until then I will say “I love you “
