Larry Don Bobbitt Staff Sgt. E6 – US Army Retired, 81, of Amarillo, TX passed away on March 15, 2024.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Lanny Newton officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Larry was born in San Diego, CA, on March 13, 1943, to Elaine Baker Bobbitt and Otho Edwin Bobbitt. His mom and dad moved back to Amarillo, TX in 1948. Mr. Bobbitt grew up and spent most of his life in Amarillo, TX. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1962 and then attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University. He graduated from WT in May of 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. He worked for over 20 years for The State of Texas, 8 of those years as a social worker. He worked for 13 years as a clerk at the Amarillo Veterans Hospital, Dept. of Veteran Affairs. He retired at age 73.

Mr. Bobbitt enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1967 for 3 years. He spent a year (1968-1969) in South Vietnam, The 192d /64th Finance Section, Da Nang Support Command, as a finance clerk. He also joined the Texas Army National Guard for 18 additional years and retired with 20 plus years from the Army at the rank of Staff Sergeant E6. While in South Vietnam, he was able in his spare time and through the chaplains, to be involved in missionary and humanitarian activities. The awards he received while in the Army and the National Guard include the following: Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; 2 Army Achievement Medals; Vietnam Service Medal; Army Faithful Service Medal (for 20 plus years of service); Letter of Commendation from Civilian Supervisor and the Army Commander of Finance, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; and several other awards.

Mr. Bobbitt started attending church when he was 7 years old. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was 18 years old at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He has been involved in several mission trips to Brazil, Belarus, and Kenya. He also recently, through his church, went on a trip to Isreal. Mr. Bobbitt has been a member of Central Church of Christ for several years.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin George Bobbitt.

Survivors include his son, David Bennett Bobbit, and nephews, James Bobbitt and his family, and Erich Bobbitt and his family.
