Leon Dale Bippus
Leon Dale Bippus, 87, of Amarillo, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 17, 2024.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 25, 2024, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. A private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.
Dale was born in Amarillo, Texas on September 5, 1936, to Theodore and Chloe Bippus. He attended Margret Wills Elementary, Sam Houston Junior High, and the old Amarillo High School. At the age of 15 his father passed away and Dale had to take over the family service station. He would get up in the morning, open the station, go to school then go back and close the station. He attended Amarillo College where after graduating his teacher recommended Dale for an apprenticeship at the Bureau of Mines Helium Operations. He went on to Texas Tech University where he achieved a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. While attending Tech he met the love of his life Judi Bingham. They were married on October 24, 1959. Dale served in the U.S. Navy, primarily in the Navel Reserves for 8 years. Dale went on to work for the Helium Operations for a total of 39 years and eventually became the General Manager of all Operations. During his tenure at the Bureau of Mines he was awarded the Meritorious Award from the Secretary of Interior, the second highest civilian award. Dale was also recognized by the Governor of the State of Texas for 50 years serving as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. Dale participated in many charitable organizations including the Optimist Club, Rotary Club, United Way, and the Boy Scouts, just to name a few. He was an avid member of First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, usher, greeter, substitute teacher, and head of intercessory prayer group. He was a proud member of the Odell and later Hagerman class. Dale loved the Lord and always said God and he were on a first name basis. After retirement, Dale and Judi traveled extensively in the U.S. and Canada. His hobbies included fishing and woodworking.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life, Judi Bippus and her parents.
Survivors include his children, son Kirt Bippus of Amarillo, daughter Kristin Ribble of Amarillo, son Kendal Bippus and wife Krystal of Amarillo; grandchildren, Luke Ribble, Jordan Ribble, and Brooke Bippus all of Amarillo. Dale was an only child but always called Dewayne and Eddie Singleterry his brothers and Judy Singleterry Spiker his sister.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Dale’s name to First Baptist Church.
