Leota Alpha Hardgrove, 95, of Plainview, TX died Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Plainview. Burial is private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo.
Leota was born December 29, 1928, in Paducah, TX to Emerald and Effie Smock. She graduated from Paducah High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University, and a Master’s degree from West Texas State University.
She taught school in Muleshoe, Friona, and Plainview until her retirement. She was a member and past president of the Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. Leota was a member of First Baptist Church in Plainview where she taught Sunday school for more than 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Dale Hardgrove; and her brother, Coy Smock.
Survivors include a son, David Hardgrove and wife Rebecca, of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Valerie Lopez and husband David, Allison Fluck and husband Jonathan, Melissa Francis and husband Robbie, David Preston Hardgrove, Amy Adams and husband Chris, and David Robert Carr; and twelve great-grandchildren.
