Lillie Joan Barnett
Lillie Joan Barnett, 86, of Lubbock, TX passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Monty Barnett, nephew of Joan, officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, TX.
Joan was born in Senatobia, MS on April 8, 1937, to Ruth Orelia (Whalen) and Roy Stacy Robertson. She graduated from Vega High School in 1954. While in high school, Joan was a delegate to the Bluebonnet Girl’s State. After graduation, she attended Draughn’s Business School. She was an accountant her e
ntire adult life and loved it. She worked for West Texas Equipment Co., Page & Wi
rtz Construction and Missouri Valley Construction.
She volunteered with BSA Auxiliary, ASID HOSTS and Meals on Wheels. She and Lon were members (in good standing) with the Whirly Birds Square Dance Club. They could allemande left with a do-si-do down the center.
Another “hobby”, she enjoyed, was her couples’ bowling league. She won the “Most Improved Bowler”: she improved by 20 pins. While honing her bowling skills, she volunteered to coach her daughter’s softball team, junior high thru high school. Were they good, no, they were great, thanks to her coaching. She was not afraid to step in where needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lon D. Barnett; brother, Roy M. Robertson; and brother-in-law, Donn Stringer.
She is survived by her daughters, Lonna Barnett McKay and husba
nd Jay, of Wolfforth, TX, and Vicki Biggers and husband Greg, of North Richland Hills, TX; son, Dr. Michael Barnett, of Dallas, TX; sister, Hazel Stringer, of Marble Falls, TX; brother, James Robertson (Carol), of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law, Carolyn Barnett, of Amarillo, Texas; grandsons, Brolin McKay and fiancée Rachel Wright, of Dallas, TX, Evan Biggers, of Houston, TX, Landry Barnett, of Fort Worth, TX, and Zachary Barnett, of Stillwater, OK; granddaughter, Alissa Mead and husband Steven, of North Richland Hills, TX; many beloved nieces and nephews and one great-grandchild.
Should friends desire, contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Snack Pak 4 Kids in memory of Joan.
The family would like to thank her caregivers at Mackenzie Court in Lubbock: Angela, Susanne, Jason, Lupe, Stephanie, Kylie, Sylvia, Dom, and the kind nurses/employees at Gentiva Hospice: Jordan, Summer, Erin, Morgan and sweet Celeste.
