Lois LaVerne Pollard

Lois LaVerne Pollard, 91, of Amarillo, TX formerly of Dumas, TX entered into the joys of Heaven on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Boxwell Brothers Memorial Chapel, 500 N. Maddox.   Burial will be at the Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas.

Lois was born June 13,1928 in Wellington, TX to Floyd and Lula Mae Hudson. She was the oldest of five daughters. They moved to Dumas during the dust bowl days, and she talked about experiencing their first “black duster.” When she was twelve, she began to attend the First Assembly of God Church in Dumas. They were a very musical family who loved to sing gospel hymns with her daddy singing bass and the girls harmonizing. She graduated from Dumas High School in 1946, and a year later reconnected with a handsome sailor she had met a couple of years earlier. She and Forest Dean (F.D.) Pollard were married March 5, 1948.

Lois and F.D. had two children, Billy Floyd and Tanya. Lois was a homemaker, not only taking care of her own family but also helping to take care of her mother who had health issues, and being a friend to her sisters.

Lois was a woman of devout faith. She loved to serve in her church, from leading song service to teaching Sunday School class, to taking food to the widows of the church. In their later years, she and F.D. moved their membership to Bethel Assembly of God. She served faithfully until the symptoms of Alzheimer’s began to worsen and she moved to a nursing home in Amarillo to be nearer to her children.

She loved her Lord and Savior with all of her heart and encouraged everyone with whom she came in contact to develop a relationship with Him through reading the Bible and prayer. Her favorite song to sing was “I am blessed…every day that I live I am blessed.” Even as her memory began to fade, she would sing that song and testify of God’s faithfulness.

She was preceded in death by Forest Dean, her husband of 53 years, as well her parents, Floyd and Lula Mae Hudson, her sisters, Ann Albright, Reba Ensey, Veda Hammer, and Bonnie Hudson.

Survivors include her son, Bill Pollard and wife Alicia of Fort Worth, TX; her daughter, Tanya Spivey and husband John of Amarillo, TX; seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, December 6, 2019, at the funeral home.

We first met her when we moved to Dumas in 1984 and started attending Bethel A/G Church where she was always busy helping in any area she could. Lois has graduated to her great joy. Please know your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. May God’s Spirit comfort you in the days that follow.

  2. I’m sorry for your loss. Lois pray with me the night I received the the Holy Ghost she was a blessing to me . She going to receive her rewards for so many lives she touched.

  3. Sorry to hear of her loss to loved ones. She is flying free, set free from her body which held her captive. A great woman of God, a great prayer warrior, with a concern for all, a servant of his kingdom and a humble and giving heart. Everyone’s friend. I can see her singing at the foot of the throne in worship to our savior. Won’t it be a grand reunion around that throne.

  4. I remember going to her house as a little girl and admiring her love for hummingbirds! She had them everywhere! She loved her family and her church and was always ready to help whenever help was needed…my heart is mourning mrs. Verne’s passing, but I can only imagine the beauty she is experiencing in Gods presence now.

  5. Lois was an extraordinary Christian woman. I spent some wonderful times with her family when I was growing up. While knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones, she will be missed by those left here. Condolences to Billy Floyd and Tanya and their families.

  6. Lois was a dear friend plus prayer partner with my mother, Ima Jean Green, Marcile Adams and the pastor’s wife. Those ladies knew and loved their Lord; therefore could reach Him like no other. I treasured their prayers, even when I strayed a few times. I have a precious 49-year-old daughter who is a result of those prayers when several doctors said no chance for that darling; miracles didn’t cease because they never gave up on anything. Grieve-as-you must, not-as-others will tell you is right, wrong or indifferent. Travel your individual pathway as there are no pathways, just one for each of you separately. May our Lord and Savior hold to you while you cling to His unchanging and unfailing hand.

  7. Lois was a great inspiration and mentor to us. FD and Lois were special and cherished family friends. We have lots of great memories: from quilt-making to work-days at the church along with pot lucks and church socials. No doubt there is an awesome homecoming celebration taking place with many of Lois’s family members along with her friends Bob and Dovie who loved her dearly. Someday we will see her again. Praying for you during this time,
