Marilyn Van Petten, 91, of Amarillo, TX passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with David Green officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Born in 1931 in North Dakota, Marilyn moved to Texas with her young family in the early ‘50’s then to Amarillo as a young widow in 1980. Marilyn loved her Amarillo community, working tirelessly as a career fund raising professional for organizations including the Amarillo Area Foundation, the Harrington Cancer Center, and the United Way. Later she was an active volunteer for Chamber Music Amarillo, Amarillo South Rotary Club and the Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship among numerous non-profits.

She is survived by her son, Ed Van Petten; her daughters, Cindy Wilkinson and Deb Winters; her granddaughter Taylor Adams and husband Matthew Adams; and great-grandchildren Caysen, Kinsley and Peyton.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Amarillo South Rotary Club, P.O. Box 50956, Amarillo, Texas 79159, in support of their educational mentoring programs.

  1. Marilyn, you were a shining star in my life. You made my life wonderful when you took a chance and hired me when I first moved to Amarillo. You taught me Grace and how to be both a servant and a leader.
    I will miss your kindness, your loving heart and your smile. You changed my life.
