Mrs. Hover was born and raised in Independence, Kansas on June 11, 1935 to Geneva and Albert Arnold of Independence. She moved to Wichita, Kansas after completing her education.

She was married to Frank Wendell Land in 1954. They have two sons, Stephen E. Land and Bradley Dell Land.

In 1964, she married George W. Hover in San Sebastian, New Mexico. They lived in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Dalhart, Palacios and Amarillo, Texas. George and Martha were married 48 years.

She was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church where she attended Thee Fellowship Class. She was a life-member of Beta Sigma Phi and represented her chapter as Valentine Sweetheart and was chosen as Outstanding Woman. In 1986-87 she was honored as Citywide Preceptor Outstanding Woman. Employed as a telephone operator, sales clerk, teacher-aide, bookkeeper, bank and hospital customer service representative, and church secretary, Martha was a “jack of all trades, master of none.” She often had to learn a new trade because of her many moves due to her husband’s employment. Preceding her in death are her husband, George; her parents; three brothers, David Eugene Arnold, Albert Allen Arnold, and Earl Hankins; and two sisters, Mary Duree, and Donna Parker.

Land, Brett Land and wife Lindsie Land, Casey Wallis and husband Travis Wallis, and Ryan Land; great-grandchildren Luke and Siena Fazzino, and West and Navie Land; and sister-in-law, Pat Arnold.
