Mary Elizabeth Hare, 58, of Panhandle, TX passed away October 15, 2020.

Mary Elizabeth Hare was born on July 22, 1962, to Beale Bernard Denton and Betty Ann Grant (Denton). She lost her very short battle with cancer and went to be with Jesus on October 15, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd Allen Hare Jr (Pete) of Panhandle, TX, her 2 daughters, Kayla and husband Kyle McKenzie of San Angelo, TX, and Mallory and husband Terence Jones of Abilene, TX. She also has 4 beautiful grandchildren, Kolby and Kendall McKenzie, and Aliyah and Zechariah Jones, whom she held most dear to her heart. She was also survived by 5 brothers and sisters, Debbie Madden of Littleton, CO, David and wife Susan Denton of Wimberly, TX, Danny Denton of Macon, GA, Karen and husband Bob Jameson of San Antonio, TX and Dollie and husband Todd Miller of Amarillo, TX and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Beale and Betty Denton, and son, Lloyd Allen Hare Ill.

Her hobbies were reading books, snuggling and playing with her grandbabies, and cruising the world with her Peter Rabbit. Mary was the Head Librarian for Carson County Library and cherished all her patrons who walked through the door but especially loved her Mommy and Me kiddos.

She started lots of programs at the library, including the Friends of the Library Program that provides a way for people to be able to donate books to the library in memory of loved ones so that others may enjoy these books.

Funeral service will be held at Trinity Fellowship Church on Monday, October 19, 2020, at 10:30 A.M., where she praised and worshiped her Loving God with her whole heart. We will then take her to Panhandle Cemetery where she will be laid in her final resting place at 2:30 P.M. next to her son, Allen, who was lost too soon.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M., Sunday, October 18, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Amarillo, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carson County Friends of the Library Fund per Mary and her family’s request.

  1. I’ve known Mary 30 years. She babysat my kids years ago and they loved her. She was a wonderful person, loving caring and kind. The world was a better place with her in it. I will miss her more than words can express.

  3. I knew Mary through the Harrington Library Consortium. I didn’t know her well, but I never saw her down. She was always ready with a smile and a laugh. She was always very positive and her love for the Lord shown through whatever she did. We will miss her.

  6. Mary was the most amazing person. I loved going to the library on mommy and me days. She was so gifted when she read to the kids. I will mis her enthusiasm and her smile she had for everyone. RIP .

  9. I’m Todd Miller’s sister and didn’t know Mary, but her sister Dollie is my sister-in-law and a special woman and I know her sister was in the same category. I send my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Mary’s family.
