Maxine Ellen Featherston, 95, of Amarillo, TX passed away on February 12, 2021.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 16, 2021, in the Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum.

Maxine was born on August 9, 1925, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Mary and Charles Hull.

Maxine married Lester “Dale” Featherston on September 7, 1948. She was an accomplished China painter. She enjoyed and excelled in China painting for many years after learning the art from her niece, Sherry Snow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester “Dale” Featherston in 1994; her daughter, Cynthia Ann Featherston in 1956; and grandson, Justin Ryan Scherlen in 2016.

Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Scherlen and husband Tom, and Teresa Diane Gwaltney, both of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Trevor Scherlen and wife Kelly, Jeanette Gwaltney Knaff, Dena Hill Eads and husband Tim, and David Gwaltney; great-grandchildren, Hunter Hill, Aspyn Hill, Andrew Cooper, Ravan Knaff, Nathaniel Knaff, Colin Scherlen, Corban Scherlen, Charity Scherlen, Taylor Scherlen, Jackson Scherlen, Garrett Scherlen, Fayth Gwaltney, and Lotus Gwaltney;  sister of Maxine, Karen Hull Taylor, of Humble, TX; and multiple much-loved nieces and nephews.

A special mention of gratitude to her awesome son-in-law, Tom Scherlen.  He took such great care of Maxine.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care and compassion of Interim Home Health and Hospice with special recognition of her nurse, Sammy Case.

The family suggests memorials go to the 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle, P.O. Box 589, Amarillo, Texas, 79105.

  3. Will miss her. Still see her setting on the front porch- always a wave. And the things she would try to do when y’all went on vacation when she still had her van. 😂. Yes I helped her!
