Melba Ruth Burch House

Melba Ruth Burch House, 82, was called home to be with Jesus on February 24, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas.

Melba was born in Amarillo, Texas on January 10, 1942, to C.T. and Mildred Burch. Melba was the oldest of 3 girls and had 3 brothers. Melba became a follower of Jesus Christ when she was 15 years old while attending Grace Baptist Church. She was an Amarillo Sandie and enjoyed hanging out with her friends and cousins on Polk Street. Melba met Bob House, the love of her life, while he was stationed in Amarillo, and they were married on April 2, 1960.

Bob and Melba raised their children while he was serving in the Air Force. She was involved with her children’s activities as a cheer coach and little league mom. Bob retired from the Air Force and the family settled in Amarillo where Melba began a career in keypunching and held positions with Atmos Energy and Affiliated Foods from which she retired. She worshipped and served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher at Southwest Baptist Church Oasis and had the gift of hospitality opening her home to anybody who needed a place to talk, share a cup of coffee or a place to lay their head for the night. She enjoyed making blankets and quilts for her grandkids, collecting windmills, and listening to her favorite gospel music.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Robert House, Sr., parents, C.T. and Mildred Burch, sister Helen Jester, brother Don Burch and sister-in-law Pat Burch.  She is survived by her sister Beverly Coker and brothers Richard Burch and Ray Burch and by her children Robert House, Jr. and wife, Lynda; Tye House and wife Rebecca; and Meshelle House Bowles and husband Daniel. Melba was grandma to Megan, Robby, Joseph, Joshua, Caleb, Blake, Macael, Jeremiah, Lauren, and Rachel. She was great grandma to Milo and Nicolai.

Visitation will be held at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 3pm to 5pm.

Services will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 10am, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Tye House, Robby House, Joseph House, Joshua House, Caleb Bowles, Blake House, and Jeremiah Bowles.
